The meeting is free and open to the public. The program speaker will be Barbara Leak, who will talk on the subject of "Searching for Soldier Ancestors: Sources for Military Research." Ms. Leak is a fifth generation Californian with early American ancestry and has been studying genealogy for over 15 years. She is the Placer County Genealogical Society's Librarian and is the editor and principal author of the society's handbook, "Tracing Your Family Tree: How to Begin." She has held many positions on the Board of this Society and volunteers with the Loomis Basin Historical Society, the Auburn LDS Family History Center and holds a position with the Genealogical and Historical Council of Sacramento Valley. Her lectures are greatly received with all organizations. The Placer County Genealogical Society has a membership of over 200 individuals and families that have genealogical interests. The group holds a general meeting at the Auburn library site on the fourth Thursday of each month from 7-9PM, and features a program speaker on various genealogical subjects. The group also offers two specialty day groups. One that studies various topics of member interest, which meets at the library on the first Tuesday of the month, and the other, the Family Tree Maker User Group, reviews genealogy computer program subjects, on the second Thursday of the month.
