PLACER COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY PO BOX 7385 AUBURN, CA 95604 (530) 887-2646 www.gunruh.home.netcom.com/pcgs.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 17, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY TO MEET IN AUBURN The Placer County Genealogical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7PM, Thursday, February 26th, in the Beecher Room of the Auburn-Placer County Library, 350 Nevada Street in Auburn. The meeting is free and open to the public. The program speaker for this month’s meeting is Chuck Knuthson. He has been studying and conducting genealogical research for over 25 years, and is a retired police captain, having served in law enforcement for 32 years. His topic will be "Genealogy Extravaganza in Our Own Backyard: Tips for Attending the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Conference." The NGS will be holding its national convention in Sacramento on May 19-22. Knuthson’s presentation will cover various aspects of attending this event including how to pick classes to attend, the social events, the exhibit hall, parking and transportation tips, how to register and the cost to participants. This convention will provide a great opportunity for Central Californians that are interested in genealogy to attend a national genealogical function with top-notch speakers and topics. The Placer County Genealogical Society has a membership of nearly 200 individuals and families that have historical and genealogical interests. The group holds a general meeting at the Auburn library site on the fourth Thursday of each month from 7-9PM, and features a program speaker on various genealogical subjects. The group also offers two specialty day groups. One that studies various topics of member interest, which meets at the library on the each month except July, August and December. The other, the Family Tree Maker User Group, reviews genealogy computer program subjects, on the second Thursday of the month, at the Latter Day Saints Church, 1255 Bell Road, in Auburn.
