II. Bit of Blarney in our Film Festival 3/13 & 14! 7th Sacramento Jewish Film Festival Hits the Big Screen March 13 & 14, 2004! Our 7th Annual Sacramento Jewish Film Festival which will take place at the historic Crest Theatre Saturday March 13, 2004 (post Shabbat) and Sunday March 14, 2004. This years' festival brings 3 feature films, an Academy Award Nominated short film and a live musical performance by Ceilizemer. The festival opens Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. with a reception featuring an Israeli hot kosher buffet with wines, desserts. Following the reception at 8:30 p.m. is the opening night film "A Trumpet in The Wadi". "A Trumpet In The Wadi" which received the Best Film Honor from the Haifa Film Festival 2001 is an Israeli Romeo and Juliet love story set against the backdrop of Middle Eastern tensions. The following day, Sunday March 14, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. we are proud to bring a new print of the 1937 Yiddish language film "The Vow" coupled with the 2001 the short film "One Day Crossing". "The Vow", which has been recently restored by the National Center on Jewish Film, is a classic tale of love, fate and mysticism based on the ancient folk tale The Dybbuk. "One Day Crossing", which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Film, tells the poignant story of a Hungarian Jewish girl, who poses as a Christian to try to save her family from the Nazis. Shot in black and white the film is evocative of the 1944 era in which it is set. Wrapping up the Festival at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday March 14 is the documentary film "Shalom Ireland" coupled with a live performance by Ceilizemer (ceili, Gaelic for Irish musical party; zemer, Hebrew for song; pronounced KAY-lee-ZE-mer), the band who provided the musical soundtrack for the film "Shalom Ireland". "Shalom Ireland" is Valerie Lapin's fascinating look at the little known history of the Jewry of Ireland.
