ROOT CELLAR MEETING FOR JANUARY The regular meeting for January 11 will be at 7 pm at Merrill Gardens, 7418 Stock Ranch Road, Citrus Heights. Jim Rader will speak on "Genealogy and DNA." FEBRUARY MEETING The February 8 meeting will have Glenda Lloyd speaking on "Documenting Your Treasures" and ROOT CELLAR members are asked to bring family items to share. Bring something interesting, anything your family has passed down through the generations. It will also be Library Docent Appreciation Month. NEW DAY-TIME WORKSHOP Starting on January 18, 2006 from 1-3 at Sylvan Oaks Library on Auburn Blvd through will be a Genealogy Workshop open to all. No cost to participants. Marge Smith, Vice President, will lead the sessions with the help of Mary Sayles and other executive board members. The January program will be 'Just bring in a problem and/or a story.' The remainder of the sessions on the 3rd Wednesday of each month will cover the interest of those attending. SPRING SEMINAR The ROOT CELLAR SPRING SEMINAR will be held March 25. John Phillip Colletta, PhD of Washington D.C. will be the speaker and the topics he will cover will be: Naturalization - 1790-1920; Lesser Used Federal Records (a sampling of fresh research ideas such as Homestead Files, Passport Applications, Civil War Income Tax, Appointments of Postmasters.); An Introduction and Overview of the Library of Congress and Advanced Problem Solving of Passenger Arrival Records The location will be the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church on Fair Oaks Blvd. near Madison Ave. The cost is $24.00 for members and $27.00 for non-members. After March 1 the cost will be $30.00 for all. The registration flyers will be made available soon. NEW GENEALOGY CLASSES "Genealogy - 'The Old-Fashioned Way' Using Original Records" will be taught by Glenda Lloyd on Mondays beginning January 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00 or 6:30 to 8:30 pm. There will be 10 sessions for $10.00 at San Juan Adult Education Sunrise Tech Center, 7322 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights. Call Glenda at 988-5798 for more information. Glenda Lloyd will also be teaching Mary Lou Shaw's Family History Class for this semester on Wednesdays, 1-3 pm at the Cordova Activities Senior Center, 3480 Routier Road, Rancho Cordova. The fee is $10 and registration will be in class. The classes will begin January 18. Mary Lou will be caring for her husband who recently had quad triple by-pass surgery.
