The Genealogical & Historical Council of Sacramento Valley is saddened to report the death of our friend Verl Weight who passed away on Friday, January 6, 2006, at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife Gertrude, four children, five grandchildren, and three siblings. Verl made a lasting contribution to Sacramento's genealogical community when, in 1962, he organized and became founding director of the Sacramento LDS Family History Center. He served as the library's director for over 38 years. An Accredited Genealogist in Southern States research, he lectured throughout northern California, Oregon, Nevada and Utah, and was listed in *Who's Who in Genealogy & Heraldry.* He was a founding member and past president of the Genealogical & Historical Council of Sacramento Valley. Friends are welcome for visitation Tuesday, January 10, beginning at 9:00 am and are invited to attend services that same morning at 10:00 am, both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ashton Park Ward Chapel, 2745 Eastern Avenue, Sacramento (Carmichael). Internment will be at Sylvan Cemetery.
