Thursday, October 6, 2005 California Archives Week Celebrates "Discovering Historical Treasures of the Golden State" with Week Long Events Sacramento, CA - "Discovering Historical Treasures of the Golden State" will serve as the theme of this year's California Archives Week, from October 8-15. The events, sponsored by the Society of California Archivists and the California State Archives, will be held at the California State Archives Building at 1020 "O" Street. This celebration encourages archives, libraries, museums and historical societies throughout the state to highlight their collections and services. The California State Archives will hold an open house on Saturday, October 8th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. The open house will include behind the scenes tours, a special exhibit of documents from the collection, displays by local repositories and the opening of "This is War! The Golden State in Global Conflict," an exhibit on California during World War II. On Thursday, October 13th, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., the Archives will host a forum to discuss the use of historical documents. Presentations will be given on the Mexican-American youth in California, finding information in the State Archives and the exclusion of the Japanese during World War II in California. To close out the week, on Saturday, October 15th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Archives will host its annual genealogical fair, Family History Day. The day's events will feature exhibitors, tours of the Archives, classes on researching family history and document preservation demonstrations. The day's events are being held in collaboration with local genealogical and historical organizations.
