“Memoirs of Baghdad” September 19, 7 p.m., Jewish Genealogical Society Albert Einstein Residence Center, 1935 Wright St., Sacramento Daniel Khazzoom’s family can be traced back more than 600 years in Baghdad. He will discuss this rich heritage at the Jewish Genealogy Society’s September meeting. Dr. Khazzoom will share recollections of the life of the Baghdad Jewish community, including pictures of Jewish sites and ceremonial objects dating back hundreds of years. The Baghdad Jews are not Ashkenazim (Jews from Northern and Eastern Europe) or Sephardim (descendants of Spanish and Portuguese Jews) but part of a third major branch of Judaism, the Mizrakhim (Middle Eastern Jews). Dr. Khazzoom, who grew up in Baghdad, earned a Ph.D. in mathematical economics from Harvard and has taught at UC Berkeley, Stanford, San Jose State and several major universities on the east coast. All are welcome to join us for a personal look at Baghdad when Dr. Daniel Khazzoom joins us at our September 19 meeting.
