Does anyone happen to know the web site for the Grass Valley Group? There web site has apparently changed or is no longer available. nccn.net has the following information but no longer has a reference to a web site: Grass Roots Genealogical Group Meets weekly at the Senior Center, 11350 Mc Courtney Road, Grass Valley. Anyone interested in genealogy/family history is invited to attend. There are no dues or age restrictions. Visiting the local museums is a great idea, especially with the free admission. For more info, the museum web site address is www.placer.ca.gov/museum Museums are open weekends and the three museums located in Auburn have week day hours. If you haven't taken the opportunity to visit the Bernhard Museum, now is the time. This museum is a residence furnished to reflects the life of a 19th century farm family. It is fun to see. If you visit the Placer County Museum, located on the first floor of the historic Placer County Courthouse, drop by and see me. I'm working on a special project for the museum's dept. this summer and can usually be found in room 102 (across from the rest rooms) Cindy ----- Original Message ----- From: Gerald Unruh <gunruh@pcgenes.com> To: <CA-PCGS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 15, 2001 9:42 PM Subject: Re: [CA-PCGS] Placer Co Museums > It sounds as if the price is right. It sounds as if the price is right. Did they print a list of the museums or if Placer County's web site has a list of the museums and their hours? >From the LOOMIS NEWS, Thursday, 14 June 2001: Museum Admission Will Be Free Throughout Year Admission fees to all Placer County museums have been suspended for the duration of the Placer 150 Celebration, which runs through April 24, 2002. The celebration recognizes the 150th anniversary of the creation of Placer County on April 25, 1851, when the California Legislature voted to create Placer County from portions of Sutter and Yuba Counties.
That's great, Jacqui. I agree, microfilmed church records from the FHL are the ticket to European research. I've never used Catholic records, but I have used Lutheran records from Germany and Denmark, and they are fantastic! I've often found bonus information written in the margins of the baptism records. Examples: death dates; notations that the individual had emigrated to America (or some other country) and the year of emigration; the parents' date of marriage--a year or two after the baptism of the child (an illegitimate birth, later legitimized by marriage.) The parish priest went back and added this information to the baptism records, sometimes YEEEARS later. Some poor little children apparently didn't have names and are entered in the baptism records as Anonymous. How would you like to have your name recorded for posterity as Anonymous Schillinger? I just have to share the fantastic luck I've had with ordering Catholic Church Records from the Family History Library. These particular records are in Spanish, from a small town in Granada, Spain. Not only did I find marriage bans, bride and groom's baptismal records, etc., but there was also information on the groom's first marriage to a young woman who later died in childbirth, the death records of both his parents, and his military discharge papers. Could anyone ask for more? Not all records are as detailed as this one, but don't be afraid to order church records for your ancestors--they may contain a goldmine of information. Jacqui Marcella
Roni, (and anyone else) You indicated that you did look at the PCGS member web page at http://www.pcgenes.com/members.html In general the format is your name, your e-mail, your web page (if you have one) in the first column and then the names and locations of the some of the people you are researching. You may wish to think about either the main lines and locations you are researching or possibly the ones that you are having trouble finding. I would like to keep it reasonably short but I can change it fairly often also. (No problem for me to change, but you would probably only want to make a change every couple of months or so. Although the search engines come through regularly you want to give other people a little time to do their searches and find you.) Just send me an e-mail providing a listing similar to what you see on the web site. I will add your information to the listing and send you back e-mail that it is completed asking you to take a look and see how many errors I have made. Anyone having updates can send me the corrections in e-mail and I will then let them know when the corrections are made again asking for them to take a look and check for errors or other updates. Producer Stephen Lemmon of The Studio would like to produce a weekly TV series about genealogy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A brief survey requesting your input is at: http://www.familyhistory.tv/survey ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The survey is brief. It does NOT ask you for your name, address, e-mail address or anything personal other than an age group and your gender. I think a weekly genealogy TV program would be great. Click on the above and give them your input on the content of the planned weekly family history TV series. John J. Bohnert Grass Valley PCGS member
