Hi List; I have really only visited cemeteries in my area where my ancestors are buried - Stayner, Collingwood, Barrie , Brentwood and the Pioneer Catholic Cemetery on the 4th Line of Nottawasaga. This pioneer cemetery only has a few stones placed at the front of it and nobody really looks after it. I have volunteered on RAOCK to take pictures of tombstones at St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery on Highway 91, just outside of Stayner. I have also started to transcribe birth, marriage and death records from the census to go on line , mainly for Nottawasaga and surrounding areas. Hope this site continues to grow! Shirley Cook
Hello List, In my ggrandfather's obit, it mentions that his mother left Smiths Falls, Ontario in 1850 as a widow, and moved to Burwell Line, Peel, three miles from Arthur, Ontario. She was 70 in the 1871 census and does not appear in the 1881. So, could someone tell me what cemeteries in the 1871-1881 time frame were in that "Burwell Line, Peel Township area? They were a catholic family but I am looking at all cemeteries I certainly would appreciate any thoughts. Carol Lee
Hi Carol; The Burway Line is now Hwy 109 (former Hwy #9 ) goes from Arthur to Teviotdale. The closest and most likely Catholic cemetery is on Hwy 109 a mile from Arthur . Greenfield Cemetery and the Catholic cemetery are together there, don't know the name of the Catholic one. They where in Peel Township. that area is now Arthur Twsp. The Catholic church is in Arthur, both churches are still active. There is a Catholic Church and cemetery at Kenilworth on Hwy 6 , about 6 miles north of Arthur. Records for the cemeteries are at the Wellington County Archives at Elora Ont. Likely the churches have records also. Jean F As far as I know they would be the o Radford wrote: > Hello List, > >In my ggrandfather's obit, it mentions that his mother left Smiths Falls, >Ontario in 1850 as a widow, and moved to Burwell Line, Peel, three miles >from Arthur, Ontario.
