Dear Violet: FYI - Although the transcripts are not online, the Wellington Museaum and Archives have transcriptions for the Coningsby Cemetery. They also note the Ashenhurst family in their list of Family Histories. http://www.wcm.on.ca/archives_family.php This site has a few other photos for the Coningsby Cemetery. Notice in the surname list Ashenhurst is spelt as Asgenhurst. Possibly you can get in touch with the site owner. http://erin_cemeteries.tripod.com/photos/index.html I found the Ashenhurst name interesting and decided to do some more surfing. The following is not the information you are looking for nor may it be your family but I am sending it along. This site has a marriage for an Alexander Ashenhurst: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maryc/halton75.htm Halton Co., 1875 3044-75 Alexander ASHENHURST, 45, widower, farmer, Ireland, Esquesing, s/o William ASHENHURST & Sarah CAMPBELL, married Ann E. WALTON, 33, widow, England, Esquesing, d/o William & Catherine E., witn: Robert THURSTON & Sarah J. McINTOSH, both of Esquesing, 3 Feb 1875 at Esquesing Here is an image file that contains a picture of an Alexander Ashenhurst and two of a William Ashenhurst. http://images.halinet.on.ca/results.asp?SearchType=Subjects&type=Phrase&Sear chTerms=Portraits This is another interesting site about the Erin area mentioning the Ashenhurst Bros., also the Coningsby Cemetery history. http://www.town.erin.on.ca/about/townshiphistory.html The Stone Quarry was operated for some years on lot 15, on 5th line, by the Ashenhurst Bros. About 1933, they sold it and the farm to J.B. Ritchie of Toronto, who operated a cut stone business, employing up to twelve men. Rough blocks of stone were blasted out, and taken to Toronto where they were "dressed", (sawed and polished). Operations were discontinued in 1939, with the outbreak of the Second War. Regards, L. My name is Melanie Franke and I am looking for information about my maternal grandfather's family. I believe my great grandmother, Alice English, is buried in a cemetary called St. Peter's on Mohawk rd in hamilton but can't find the location of this cemetary. Also I am looking for a family homestead that was a land grant to a great, great, great?? Grandfather on Dundas road West of Waterdown, the farm was called Windy Hill and it was deeded to a Daniel English. Granted to the English's in 1782. Lot 24 Dundas, Nelson Township in Halton county. How might I go about seeing if the property still is standing? I am new to geneology searching . Thanks, Melanie Franke
Could SKS help me. I am trying to find information on John Austin FOX. There are two John A. Fox on the Ontario Cemetery List. One whom I know is not mine is the John Austin Fox who died in 2002. I would like someone to check the John A. FOX in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Cambridge (Galt) in Waterloo North Dumfries WW4497 and the John Austin FOX in Mountview, Cambridge (Galt) (Rose Garden in Waterloo Dumfries WW4495 . I need to know the information on the headstones or any other information that might be available. Grace DeBiasio 250-364-1426 debiasio@shaw.ca
Heather: As others have told you, an area in east Windsor used to be known as "Ford City" ( named after the Ford Motor Co. located there ) If the people that you're looking for were of east European extraction, there is a church ( Romanian Orthodox ) with an attached cemetery at the corner of Seminole and Drouillard Rds. However, this attached cemetery might also be the "Our Lady of the Lake" cemetery previously discussed. Perhaps, it might have been called the "Ford City Cemetery that you're refering to ? Hope this is helpful. Cheers, Violet
Hi Heather - if it helps, Ford City is now part of Windsor. I will check a reference book that I have and see if I can find anything further. HI ... I did some Google searching and came up with these sites. http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:r_SWQ5czvj0J:www.citywindsor.ca/Display Attach.asp%3FAttachID%3D319+%22ford+city%22+%22essex+county%22&hl=en http://www.walkervilletimes.com/fordcity.htm The area known as Ford City developed out of a French parish, Notre Dame du Lac, founded in 1884 on land donated by Francois Drouillard. The church, now named Our Lady of the Rosary ( a.k.a. Holy Rosary), was built in 1908 to replace the original structure which had burned a year earlier. Around 1928 Ford City changed it's name to East Windsor. Possibly the cemetery you are looking for were associated with these churches. Happy Hunting, L. I came across this wonderful resource with births in Ingersoll. Ontario indexed and complete birth information on the site. It might help someone to find lost relatives and figure out perhaps where the family was buried. It is rare to find a list of birth documents that are complete documents in a town. http://www.ocl.net/genealogy/vitalstatistics/births/ Welcome to the Town of Ingersoll Vital Statistics Index. This a searchable database of offical birth records for the town of Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, from June 8, 1896 to January 4, 1934. The complete birth record has been included for each entry.
Brian, Congratulations, what a marvelous idea. Just did a quick look through you site and am impressed. This may turn out to be a very useful site to those of us that don't live in Ontario.
