Hi Carol; The Burway Line is now Hwy 109 (former Hwy #9 ) goes from Arthur to Teviotdale. The closest and most likely Catholic cemetery is on Hwy 109 a mile from Arthur . Greenfield Cemetery and the Catholic cemetery are together there, don't know the name of the Catholic one. They where in Peel Township. that area is now Arthur Twsp. The Catholic church is in Arthur, both churches are still active. There is a Catholic Church and cemetery at Kenilworth on Hwy 6 , about 6 miles north of Arthur. Records for the cemeteries are at the Wellington County Archives at Elora Ont. Likely the churches have records also. Hello all! "Ontario Cemeteries Resources" has been updated this morning. This site is ideal if you're looking for cemetery information and/or looking for a cemetery transcription. Please be aware that not all cemeteries in Ontario are covered to date. If you are willing to volunteer, please send a note to Sheila (list admin) or myself and we'll get it updated as soon as we can. http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~silentguardians/ Questions, concerns and comments are always welcome! Hi Listers: I just wanted to tell you about a new website I have just put on line. It is called Archives: Clifford & Area. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifford/ It not only takes in Clifford, but the townships of Carrick, Howick, Minto and Normanby. This Website has such features as: Marriages, Cemeteries, Deaths, Census, Baptisms, Obits, Old photos, History of some groups, to name a few. Special thanks to: Susan Metcalfe, Karen Wagner, Dennis Kaufman and to the skills of Janet Jones the Webmaster of the site. I hope you enjoy it and remember that with all new things there will be some "bugs" to work out. The only regret is the "Pop-up ads" you will encounter , as part of the Free web space. Enjoy! Hello List. I obtained via film through ILL, the records of the Guelph/Woodlawn Cemetery. The one I am interested in reads: Block D - Lot 39 Thomas Fraser (Son) DP - 2 Dec. 1955 DI - Gr. 1 - 20 Sept. 1955 - Robert Laidlaw Fraser, 78 yr. McIntyre & Wilkie. Gr. 2 - 20 Sept. 1955 - Alice Fraser, 75 yr. McIntyre & Wilkie Note: An accident on Hwy #6, Guelph Twp. (Husband & Wife) DI - this is date of interment. I did not know this until I spent 30 minutes going through the newspaper film reel and ended up working backwards from the 20th of September to find that they were killed on the 17th of September DP - Does this mean date paid? Hi All, I am trying to locate my grandmother's uncle who reportedly immigrated to Canada from the Preston area in Lancashire, ENGLAND. I have just received the service record of James PARKINSON, b. 27 Feb 1894 in Preston, Lancashire, who lists his mother as Sarah and father as Zacharias. The address given in 1916 was 87 Shaw St., Hamilton, Ontario. Based on this I found the following in the cemetery database for Ontario: PARKINSON James J. White Chapel Memorial Gardens Wentworth Hamilton HM-168-1 PARKINSON S. Hamilton Wentworth Hamilton HM-303 PARKINSON Sarah White Chapel Memorial Gardens Wentworth Hamilton HM-168-1 PARKINSON Z. Hamilton Wentworth Hamilton HM-303 PARKINSON Zacharias White Chapel Memorial Gardens Wentworth Hamilton HM-168-1 There is also an entry on the service record suggesting (hard to read) that James died 18 July 1950. There is a possibility that he had a sister Audrey (my grandmother's vague recollection). I thought originally that the James I am looking for had a father William born ~1868 but there is also a brother Zacharias b ~1870, both born in Liverpool. My grandmother may therefore have been confused in her recollection. Zacharias (b ~1870) is in the English 1901 census but I haven't yet found William in 1901 (England or Canada). I do not know exactly when they would have immigrated. Could anyone look up the cemetery records above and let me know the dates etc., I would love to be able to link this family back to my ancestors (possibly James grandparents!): Zacharias PARKINSON (1835-1884) and Elizabeth Mary PARKINSON, nee BAILEY (1838-1914). Eventually I would like to trace living relatives if possible! Thanks very much Michaela Morgan Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

I suspect you did not really mean what you said about LOCATING cemeteries in North Crosby Township, Leeds County - I think what you really want is the location of Samuel's grave. If you go here http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/homepage.html and click on search, then enter Steel, Samuel you will get one hit - he is in the Thompson Burial Ground, just west of Westport, but in BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, FRONTENAC COUNTY. Samuel Steel, who died Dec. 18, 1863 aged 69 years 2 mo & 19 days Triphina Smith wife of Samuel Steel who died April 30, 1878 aged 71 years 9 mo & 21 days If you do want to know names of cemeteries in North and South Crosby you can find most of them listed in the publications list of Leeds and Grenville Branch OGS - http://www.leedsandgrenvillegenealogy.com/publications.html scroll about half way down the page. If you want to find the actual physical location of the cemeteries contact L&G-OGS - they should be able to tell you the locations, or if you purchase the transcriptions usually they give a close enough description - eg for the Old Presbyterian Cemetery at Newboro - "just off highway 42 immediately west of the Village of Newboro, very close to the boundary line between the townships of North and South Crosby." ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon" <smjwsj@mts.net> To: <CA-ONT-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2004 11:48 AM Subject: [ON-CEM] Request for information. > Good Morning all Listers! > I require information on how to locate cemeteries in Leeds County, North Crosby Township, Ontario. I need help from kind folks in Bancroft-Belleville-Trenton areas. I am trying to find out if my ancestor's name is on a war memorial that might be located in or near to any of these three villages. Robert Black was born on 15 November 1893, probably near Palmerston, in Oro Township. He was the son of Robert J. Black and Mary Caldwell who by 1900 were living in the dispersed rural communities of Turriff and L'Amable, just south of Bancroft. The senior Robert J. Black died in November 1927, while his wife Mary died in 1949. The younger Robert Black fought during the First World War and died when their hospital ship either hit a mine in the English Channel, or was torpedoed. If kind souls might confirm whether or not my ancestor's name "Robert Black" appears on war memorials in any of the three communities identified I would be very grateful. Thank you. Dean C. My uncle, Jack Ramon Billings (July 7, 1925 - June 6, 1944), from St. Thomas, Ontario, died at Normandy Beach when he was 19. His parents moved to Michigan in 1928, so he served with the U.S. forces in WWII. Of course, I never met him, but from pictures I've seen, my son could be his twin. Since my 82-year-old dad (also a veteran of WWII) can't visit his brother's grave at Normandy, I made Jack a memorial at my (now defunct) online memorial service: http://www.blueskymemorials.com/billings_jack_r_1944/ Katherine Billings Palmer http://myheritagesite.com
