    2. Robert & Mary-Anne
    3. I frequent St. Joseph's Cemetery in Brantford three seasons of the year...I do not think that records were microfilmed but the Catholic Cemeteries of Hamilton Diocese have some records but not a lot from before 1950...I can take pictures of markers anytime but winter ...but it would help if you know the location ...it is quite large...to the best of my knowledge no one has ever transcribed the names of the stones for the internet. and not all graves are marked (especially some of the older graves from the depression years) requests for photo's should be sent to<http:///> walkswithsnow<http:///>@yahoo.ca with subject Grave photos (with current date in Brackets) RPS

It's a very old cemetery. The last time I was there, in the early 1990's, nothing was microfilmed, we had to look through the old registers. The people there were very helpful in giving us space and bringing the registers. Unfortuately, I live east of Toronto a fair distance from this cemetery. Perhaps you'll find someone closer. Is this right? If I am on the correct path, is there anyone in the Toronto area going there anytime soon that could or would do a lookup or more? I would gladly pay your expenses. The lady at Prospect did give me a few names of my family that was there, and a rough idea of where they were located, but some stones are now underground, and I'm sure there would be dates that I'm looking for on the records. She gave me confirmation of a couple names but did state there were a bunch more, and I would almost bet they are all related. Thank you for your time, Chris N ______________________________

    3. Well folks, I am going to add my two cents to this discussion as well..... First let me say Sheila you do a fantastic job, and there is no need for you to leave as admin! I am an admin of a couple of lists and if there is one thing I can't stand, is arguing or off colour postings because someone doesn't want to "play by the rules".... the big thing for me is the posts being archived, and they all are! Sheila made it quite clear from the start of this list that she will not tolerate untoward posts by anyone, but she has the decency to warn each and every one that she will take action, if off topic discussions continue, something technically she doesn't have to do, because she laid her rules out clear and concise at the start. So let us all get back to the business of being members in good standing and quit posting on list how much we want Sheila to stay, it is clogging up the archives! Heather in Orillia Check http://www.rootsweb.com/~onvsr/ For Ontario Birth, Marriages & Deaths -----Original Message----- From: gilchrists [mailto:gilchrists@idirect.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 18, 2005 1:03 AM To: CA-ONT-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ON-CEM] Brian's most unusual cemetery There are so many that I can choose from but my favorite one by far is burial ground known as "Elmbank" or The 5th Line Roman Catholic burial ground. This churchyard WAS located INSIDE Pearson International Airport, not to be confused with the Richview United Church cemetery which is in the intersection of Highways 401 and 427 in Etobicoke. For many years this cemetery was not accessible to anyone but descendants, and one had to be escorted "air side" to view the monuments. You were driven / escorted out with flashing lights, had to cross runways - and planes were landing and taking off very close by ... It was truly an amazing genealogical experience that I will never forget. Recently, all the bodies and stones had to be relocated due to the need for a de-icing facility at Pearson International Airport, which for technical purposes, could not be located elsewhere in the grounds. So Elmbank became the largest single cemetery relocation project in Canadian history with over 600 bodies being reinterred with respect, grace and dignity. It was my honour and privilege to be the Project Genealogist for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto which oversaw the project. The field work was handled by one of Canada's most respect archaeologists, Dr. Ron Williamson, and his associates at Archaeological Services Incorporated, of Toronto. I was responsible for documenting the names and death dates of each deceased that I could identify - as there is no one source containing all the names and burial details. It was like working on about 150 family genealogies all at the same time, and in effect I have reconstructed the first three or four generations of each family known to be buried there! The first known burial was in 1833 and the last known burial was in 1939. The churchyard has been re-located to Assumption Cemetery, which is located on Tomken Road at the south east corner of Derry Road in the City of Mississauga. In the summer of 2004, an open air Mass was celebrated by Monsignor John Murphy of the Archdiocese of Toronto, and over 500 descendants and friends of the project attended. As you drive eastbound upon entering the gates on Tomken Road, and follow a road to either the left or right of the fountain, take one of the roads to the eastern most end of the cemetery and there you will find the beautifully situated, and now totally accessible relocated Elmbank, with as many of the original stones that could be rehabilitated located on top of the bodies that they represent. Stones which represent bodies that could not be identified are located on large raised tables, angled for ease of reading and so that the elements of snow and rain run off the tablets into the ground. Finally, there is a beautifully memorial which records the names of all the identified deceased thereon - some 325 names out of some 625 bodies. The cemetery transcription detailing the tombstone data, and the names included on the memorial will be available from me, at the address below, in a few weeks. If you wish to be notified of the availability of this publication, please send me an e-mail. This is one of my favorite burial grounds ... 3. Dear Sheila, I think you do a fine job, and hope you will stay as list manager. There was a post from Bev in Michigan who spoke of the ill manners of a few. I agree with Bev that name-calling has no place on the list, and people would do well to remember that these posts are archived, and so the posters will get to live with their posts, even after they are dead. Again, I think you do a fine job, I only hope that you can do something to curtail the terribly rude and pointless name-calling in the future. Brock Way From: "Charles Geo. 1. Brian's comments to Sheila about being our List Administrator
    2. gilchrists
    3. Good evening Sheila, and fellow cemetery listers: Sheila, you have done a marvelous job in creating and developing this list. You have seen the overwhelming response that encourages you to stay with it, and it is my hope and prayer that you will do so. The rules that you have placed on us on this list are indeed very few, and are easy to follow. So, when an "off-topic" topic comes up every once in awhile, use your good judgement to do what you feel is right at the time ... you have that prerogative as the List Administrator. You must be gratified that when you do ask for advice the people on this list are very good (and generous!) at providing feedback ... So tonight the results are in ... the people have voted ... and our choice for Ontario Cemeteries List Administrator is YOU! Sheila, with your generosity and your kind ways, you have made many friends around this province, this country and indeed around the world! If I may be so bold as to take the liberty to speak on behalf of all of us who subscribe to this list - thanks for doing what you have done, doing it so well, and keep up the good work! Cheers! J. Her basic message was - I don't know who you are but no one wants to know about your mundain life, stop it now. Needless to say I didn't. I the person had a strip torn off her from one side to the other. The List Mother stepped in and put and end to the encouraging messages that would keep me going.
