I redesigned my website, finally. www.kilvicocharmaig.yk.net There is a major item on an Ontario Cemetery, filled with Scots Heather Anyone interested could e-mail Heather for details... David
This worked for me as Gord suggested. Cut and paste http://www.kilvicocharmaig.yk.net/McCollStory.html Thank for the hint Gord. Sheila
Gordon Hmm. Well, it does provide hypertext, which I tried, plus I have copied the URL into my address box, plus I Googled it, came up with the same eddress, but it still doesn't open it for me. This old "techie-tard" probably has something set wrong, cuz I sure can't make any progress. *sigh* But thanks for your suggestions... I've never done this myself but I was once told, anyone researching the cemeteries in question should contact the Archive for Ontario Hydro. (Hydro One now). It is my understanding all of the cemeteries affected were surveyed and extensive records compiled before the flooding took place. This information comes from one of the many surveyors hired for this project. Not sure if the Ontario archives have copies or not... I always intended to follow-up on the suggestion, but it remains as one of my many projects still sitting on the back burner. David Original Message ----- From: Janine Is there anyone on this list who might have been around been they moved the cemeteries from the St. Lawrence that could tell us some more about it. While doing my research this summer in Stormont area and was doing a bit of reading on how they removed 100's of cemeteries from along the St. Lawrence to other cemeteries and the ones that weren't moved were cemented over before the flooding of the St. Lawrence. Really interesting stuff. Janine

Brian: you wrote: The cemetery transcription detailing the tombstone data, and the names included on the memorial will be available from me, at the address below, in a few weeks. If you wish to be notified of the availability of this publication, please send me an e-mail. you're joking, right? There is one near Finch, Ontario where my great great grandparents, Charles Winters and Elisabeth Hesson are "burried." Actually, I'm not sure if they are burried in the field or not. There are about 20 headstones placed in a "wall," all in a row. I have a picture of the cemetery if anyone wants to see it. Phil Compeau
Quite often in the front of a transcript there is history on the cemetery (who donated the land, how much, quite often the earliest burial, and others which pre-date the cemetery (moved from other location)). The local OGS may have some information on the cemeteries. Hi Bob, Thanks for the reply, I agree on the cold. It is like that here too. I was thinking sometime in the spring when it warmed up and dried out again. I am looking to try and get a good digital photo of Thomas and Mary Gill's headstone. I had taken one when I was there from Wisconsin but the lighting was way too bad. It was almost dark and it did not turn out. They are at the very top of the hill overlooking the lake. It looks like that is the oldest part of the cemetery. And I stand corrected on the Blenheim. I don't know why I keep thinking it is Raleigh. I live near this fine old cemetery and once warm weather has returned, will photograph headstones for anyone interested. E-mail me off list with particulars so we don't clog up the list, okay. Joan Wilton tattoo@golden.net

Does anyone know who the first person was to be buried there? I think it is called Evergreen? Is anyone close to there that could take a digital photo of a headstone for me? And, in the Mosa township area, has anyone ever come across an infant headstone with the names of either James Bates or Francis Bates? Thanks, Patti

After seeing the request from another poster about Prospect Cemetery, I thought I would post a list of those that I am willing to check out physically (please note: *not* records look-up) for photos etc.- once the weather is good, of course. I may not be able to check *immediately* but will fit it into my timetable where I can as I am out on my rounds. I visit Springcreek cemetery in Mississauga on a regular basis and I know most of the main cemeteries in Mississauga ( and a lot of the churchyards as well). Brampton cemetery is within a 10 minute drive from me and Meadowvale only another 10 minutes past that. I don't mind checking out any cemetery in Peel or Vaughan or surrounding areas - as long as you can give me an idea where it is (if I don't already know). Will even go into Halton if you have the location. I visit Prospect and Mount Pleasant at least a couple of times during the good weather months. There are a few other large ones in Toronto I am making plans to visit as well this coming summer. I always carry a brush, clippers and trowel with me so don't mind doing the odd bit of sprucing up as well. Not major clean-up but I will clear the stone so it can be seen. OR Maybe you had relatives in this area of Ontario and would like to see what the area looks like where they lived. If you can give me the location details, I am happy to take photos for you. I have a digital camera so I can send the photos electronically. Yep - I need a life ;-) Please let me know if I can be of service. Katie Brampton, Ontario
