Hi list, I am looking for cemetery transcriptions or tombstone pictures (anything!) of my gr-gr-grandparents, who are buried in the Brampton Cemetery. They are: Thomas Gowland b. Oct. 23, 1845 d. June 6, 1923 and his wife, Sarah Ann Gowland (nee Short) b. Aug. 14, 1856 d. Dec.26, 1918 A look-up a while back showed there were GOWLANDs buried in the Brampton Cemetery, Lot 6, Blk A&C, Plan BR13, Conc IE, Chinguacousy Township. And I believe this may be Thomas and Sarah. I do have Thomas' obituary from the Brampton Conservator, but would like to find Sarah's as well. I appreciate the help anyone can provide. With thanks, Kim ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca

Hi, I'm new to the list and I would appreciate some help on this one. Minnie Burns married Charles Seaton. She was born 1889 Ontario, Canada and died 1918 in Detroit, Michigan. I have the following obit for her: Obituary: Chatham Daily Planet 4 Dec 1918 Page 4 BIRTHS, MARRIAGES, DEATHS SEATON: In Detroit, Michigan, on Tuesday December 3, 1918, Minnie Seaton, aged 29 years, 5 months and 11 days, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Burns, Forest Ave. Detroit, Michigan. The funeral will take place from the Grand Trunk Station on Thursday, December 5, at 1:45, thence to Maple Leaf Cemetery where internment will take place. I had someone try and find her gravesite, but couldn't. Is there any transcript of Maple Leaf Cemetery where I could find out just where she is buried? I do know that Charles and his second wife are buried there and they have markers, but don't know about Minnie. Also, if there are any of the Burns family buried in the same cemetery. Thanks. Pat

Hi Everyone! PLEASE read the following. We are now at 340 members. There have been problems with my website. At time it may not be available. I don't know a thing about doing webpages. So, I am going to have to find someone to help me out once I get the free UNLIMITED space. Now to how to subscribe to this list. to join CA-ONT-CEMETERIES-L, send mail to [email protected] with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body. or you can go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/CA-ONT-CEMETERIES.html And that tells you everything. I wish to thank each and every one of you for joining and for offering to help in anyway. Hopefully we will have a link also to the Maple Leaf project too. You support and kindness is wonderful Thank-you very much Sheila List Mom P.S. Anyone got a motto for this mailing list? How does.....".if you dead and lost in Ontario, we going to find you."< b grin> Hope that doesn't offend anyone.
Hi Muriel, To follow up a bit on Allan's info.... You can find 'a' Donald K POST at: http://www.elginogs.ca/elgincemeteries.htm Look under Madoc Twp Cemeteries > Eldorado Cemetery. I suspect from the dates he is the son. I did not see listings for Fox Cemetery. This site does not have the full tombstone transcript but does have the date and spouse, which you could then look up. Also, you if you think there is a possibility that they lived in St. Thomas you could try http://www.elginogs.ca/elgincemeteries.htm where they have their transcribed tombstones on line. Good luck in your search ...Pat Living in the Past Lane ----- Original Message ----- From: "Allan B Currie" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 5:01 PM Subject: RE: [ONT-Cemeteries] Obituary for Charlotte/Lottie Brown Post. > Hello Muriel, > > The OCFA http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/ lists the following: > > Surname / Given Name / Cemetery / County / Township / Reference > > POST / Charlotte {Lottie} Edna / Belleville, Mausoleum / Hastings / > Sidney / Q-H1172 > POST / Donald K. / Fox, Eldorado / Hastings / Madoc / Q-H1127 > POST / Donald Miles / Wellington Village / Prince Edward / Hillier > / Q-P1031 > > If some kind soul (hint, hint) on CA-ONT-CEMETERIES-L has transcriptions for > these, it would probably give you something to work with. > > From there, I would try to obtain death certificates which could provide > names of parents. Is someone able to find a cemetery transcription for the following? Mary Ann HARVEY, died April 1, 1920 in Ontario, Canada buried in Norway, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada Thanks in advance, Jan http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~janjones/ObitsHome.htm
Ontario obits is looking for assistance for a cemetery transcription and hoping for a date... Here is the query I've been forwarded: I'm looking for an obit for Jane Leith who is buried in Peel Tp., Wellington North, Ontario. (She was born July 1839 in Red River, Manitoba or Fort Simpson, NWT or Scotland (depending on the document). Ontario Cemetery Finding aids online used to allow access to dates, but that feature is no longer available. She was still living 1881, wife of John Leith of Arthur, with a large family. Daughter Elizabeth married William Gorvett of Arthur about 1883. Jane Leith is the eldest sister of my great-grandfather James Sandison, one of twin boys born 03 Dec 1841 in the Orkney Islands to John Sandison and Elizabeth Sutherland. The OGS Cemetery finding aid # for her is WW-4357 (Peel tp., Greenfield, Albert-Bethel-Eden Vale-Hope-Mt Carmel). I have not yet found her in 1901 census, but found two daughters and her husband's brother and wife, all in Arthur village. Any assistance or advice you can offer is greatly appreciated) Currently, we're seeking only a cemetery transcription so we can try to pinpoint a date of death. Any help is better than none & we appreciate your efforts! Thanking you in advance, Janet Jones - Ontario Obits Admin http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~janjones/ObitsHome.htm

Hi Betty, By this time in my genealogy studies, I should have obtained some certificates from Ontario--but I haven't. If you go to the Ontario government site at http://www.cbs.gov.on.ca/mcbs/english/4UMPCQ.htm you will know as much as I do. Their descriptions of entitlement to documents seem rather vague. In BC, death certificates are on microfilm and are available to anyone 20 years after death. Ontario may not be that liberal (small L) and some provinces actually demand that you give them information that you wouldn't be asking for if you had it! So I'll pass the buck to some knowledgeable person on the list who has gone through the process with Ontario. For future use, I would like to know when or if Ontario death certificates (or birth/marriage) first identified the origins and parents of the subject persons. Perhaps the same knowledgeable person can inform us about this. Hi Muriel, You have a few things to work with now and I hope that they lead you in the right direction. I would put my money on the first item I quoted: POST / Charlotte {Lottie} Edna / Belleville, Mausoleum / Hastings /Sidney / Q-H1172 The {Lottie} inscription makes it look like a winner. You also have to consider that married couples don't always end up buried together. The surviving spouses sometimes relocate and/or remarry just to confuse us genealogists. I hope that someone will come up with the full transcription for Lottie. Hi Everyone: Just to let you know.............I have all the printed cemetery records for Essex County, that have been published up to this date. There are a few in Windsor, which are not yet published, but these are mostly the newer ones. I am willing to do lookups, but need to know whether Protestant or Catholic, and need an approximate place. Pls. be as specific as possible. Also pls don't ask for e.g. " All the Smiths". Don't have time for that. Lorie
