Subject: List request I was wondering if you might post something to the list. I run the Saving Graves project (http://www.savinggraves.org) and am currently searching for someone to take on the role of National Coordinator for Canada. A National Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining the country level project website. They recruit and train county/parish/state volunteers and usually manage a country-wide mail list or discussion board for project volunteers. The country website offers general assistance to the researcher. In addition to above, the National coordinator tries to establish working relationships with other cemetery websites (that may contain information concerning the same nation) and often coordinates transcription projects to benefit researchers in that nation. Saving Graves will supply the web hosting on our server, the domain name and can provide mailing lists if needed. Anyone interested in volunteering for the position should contact William Spurlock at wspur! [email protected] We are also searching for Province Coordinators. A Province Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining the provincial level project website. They recruit and train county volunteers and usually manage a provincial-wide mail list or discussion board for project volunteers. The provincial website offers general assistance to the researcher. In addition to above, provincial coordinator tries to establish working relationships with other cemetery websites (that may contain information concerning the same province) and often coordinates transcription projects to benefit researchers in that state or province (transcription listings are not hosted by Saving Graves). Anyone interested in volunteering for these positions should contact William Spurlock at [email protected] Thanks much for your assistance. If I can be of any assistance to you in your Ontario Cemeteries project, please feel free to contact me and I'll do whatever I can. William Spurlock Saving Graves
Marc... Yes, I have scoured that list - the name is the same and we have been trying to tie him up with those Weavers, since he claimed that he was born in Ancaster. There is also a listing of baptisms by a preacher up there, but nothing jives. Our Zenas came down to Ohio at age 10 and then to Indiana at age 18 and lived here after the Civil War. After his wife died in 1899, he moved to Tennessee after his wife died. He died in Coffee County in Tennessee in 1916. What we need is his parents and only know that their name was Beauchamp and they died on the same day... Thanks for the quick response. Hi, All.. Do any of the transcribed lists go back to burials in ca 1847? I have an impossible pair of brick walls and with all the activity on this list am hoping someone can give me some advice. Around 1847 a couple by the name of Beauchamp died in Canada. This is per their 10 year old son who was my great great grandpa. Mr. B. was a hunter/trapper and lived in Ancaster at one time. The Ancaster cemeteries have been searched for them... no luck. The story is that they died in an Indian raid/fight, who knows where.. There were no Indian problems near Ancaster. They would have died on the same day and perhaps there were other children?? (I know, it's really far fetched - but, nothing ventured, nothing gained). My GGGrandpa's name was Zenas Beauchamp (adopted later by family named Weaver - an aunt).. Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone out there could find them... Hopefully, Lois
The question about the name the parents of the deceased was first required to be asked as of 1906 - however many Clerk's continued to use old forms for many more years, and of course some Clerk's never bothered to ask the question of the informant - the informant may not have known the details anyway (such as Doctor's). I can tell you from first hand knowledge when my grandfather died in 1967 my aunt filled out the death registration at the funeral home in west end Toronto. The Friday night before his funeral, I, as a ten year old kid having just gotten the genealogy bug, asked to see Grandpa's Death Registration form from the funeral director. He showed it to me, and the spaces for the father and mother's names and places of birth had lines drawn through them. I said to him words to the effect that "Oh, I can tell you grandpa's parent's names and places of birth." The response was, "Oh well, I filled in the form, and that's ok sonny". Somewhat put off by his treating me so indifferently, I asked my Aunt about her not recording her grandparent's name's etc. [and may I add here that my aunt is, shall I say "diplomatically challenged"]. Her response was |"What the hell do you mean that I did not record the names! The stupid so and so undertaker never asked me those questions!!!! Where is the stupid bugger...." So, my Aunt found the Funeral Director and they had an involved one sided "chat". Thank God no other families were in the funeral home that evening! His response to my aunt was, "Oh, those details do not matter, and as a policy we at this funeral home never ask those questions." Needless to say that a new death registration form was then completely filled out for my grandfather! So, this was a rather long story but it does show the mind set of some people in the funeral profession some 60 years after the regulations had first been put in place! In memory of my maternal grandfather - William George Long - born 1894 Hackney, London, England, died 1967 Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Year of immigration to Canada still unknown, and possibly can only be answered with details contained in the still not released 1911 census. Cheers! Brian J. Hi Carol If no one has the transcription for this cemetery, I will be in Tara on the weekend of the 28th of February, and if it's possible to get into the cemetery, I will be more than happy to get the information from the stone. If the road is not open because of snow (and believe me, they have had a lot of snow) and you're not in a big hurry, we go there quite often to visit family, and I would be able to get the information in the Spring. A photo too if you like. Let me know if no one replies to your request. Hello Pat, Thanks for the offer but someone has already looked up the information and unfortunately it isn't the person I was looking for. I appreciate your offer though. Hi Pat, I think I managed to confuse everyone with the message about Charlotte/Lottie Brown Post. Her name was Charlotte/Lottie Brown who married Donald Post. I have heard that they had lived in St. Thomas, Ont. Canada after they were married. They had a son also named Donald. I have no marriage date for them. Recently a cousin of mine told me that they may also have lived in Simco, Ont. Ca. Now I don't know enough about the area and I haven't researched it. She and her brothers were born in England. Richard in 1872/3, Walter in 1875, and Charlotte/Lottie in 1878/9. Thanks for you information. I appreciate the help. Muriel
Hi everyone, this board is long overdue and thanks to those who saw the need for such a forum. I currently looking for confirmation on 2 searches. I'm looking for the Taylor's (Thomas & family), some of whom are buried in Reid's Mills Cemetery near Osgoode in Russell County. I believe it's an abandoned site. Another abandoned cemetery is called McCracken's Cemetery in McCracken's Landing just north of Peterborough. Searching for the McCracken family. Thanks again, Steve

Good Day It could also be as in my father's Death Certificate there was only the date of his death and Forename and Surname. He died in Ottawa in 1965 after being released from the Royal Canadian Army and the Last Post had nothing on him and since my father left my mother the children were made wards of the Court and put in the Children's Aid and Infants Home on Charles Street in Toronto in 1948 . He is buried in Beachwood Cemetery in Ottawa. When I received his Army Records in 1981 there he was Very interesting reading William Stratton Dartmouth NS

I am looking for information on the death of John McRae. By the 1881 census, he was dead but his wife and children lived in Kinloss, Bruce South. I thought I had found him in Kincardine Cemetery but when I ordered the pages, it seemed unlikely that any of them were the right one. In the 1881 census, his wife is listed as Jane McCray, perhaps because the census taker could not understand her Scottish accent. But the name is definitely McRae, as I have death information for most of their children. Marion Markham

I also had a difficult time obtaining a death certificate for my grandmother who died in 1971 at age 90. I had to prove that I was her heir which, fortunately, I could do with Proofs of Death of my father and mother. This happened before Sept. 11, 2001. I think it is worse now. Donna
If you could get a date (cemetery transcription would help), we can add it to the obit request page and see if a volunteer can obtain a copy. I'll be most definitely looking through Toronto publications in the very near future, so the sooner you can get a cem. transcription, the sooner I can do the best to help you out.
