Northern California Items Article Text: The Sacramento Union Saturday, March 10, 1917 Disinter Body for Interment in East HARRISON GULCH (Shasta Co.), March 9 - George A. GIBBS died here on March 16, 1915, and was buried in the local cemetery. A nephew of the decedent, Fred MURRAY, arrived here today from Clearwater, Minn., to disinter the body and take it back to Minnesota for interment in the family plot. GIBBS left considerable property in this vicinity, including a valuable quarter section of timber land. After his death relatives in Minnesota directed Public Administrator LARKIN to take charge of the estate. They sent cash to pay all bills and expenses in connection with the administration. Fred MURRAY, the nephew, who has come to take the body East, is an undertaker in Clearwater, Minn. The expense of disinterring the body and taking it back to Minnesota for burial will approximate $500. Power Company Fails To Build Extension ARBUCKLE (Colusa Co.), March 9 - Farmers and residents living to the west and south of here along the proposed extension of the Northern California Power company's lines have taken up the matter of the failure of the company to build the lines with the railroad commission. Last summer the power company signed up sufficient power and light users to guarantee the line and promised immediate service. In a letter to Hart SHRADER, Jr., the commission incloses a letter from the power company stating that although they placed orders months ago they cannot get their material delivered. The completion of the lighting system for the town of Dunnigan is also being held up. Building Is More Active in Arbuckle ARBUCKLE (Colusa Co.), March 9 - Today C.R. SANDERS is beginning the erection of a building 46x80 which will be a store room, repair shop and assemblage plant for Fords. The former Sanders' garage, 50x115, has been outgrown by local business. The Northern California Power company will build a substation here. This is necessary since the extension of the company's lines to Dunnigan by way of College City. Contractor G.S. BROWN is now at work on the new residence of Edgar E. WIKER which is being built in the Balfour park addition. Pastor Loses Chico Church Membership CHICO (Butte Co.), March 9 - The name of Rev. A.A. HULL was stricken from the rolls of the Baptist Church by the board of directors of the church last night. The public has been led to believe that HULL was at one time assistant pastor of the church, but the present officers have failed to find any entry in the record books which would disclose this. One entry in the minute book made reference to HULL as acting pastor, and by a vote of the church this entry was stricken from the minutes as was his name from the membership roll. Gold Flat Ranchers Organize Farm Center GRASS VALLEY (Nevada Co.), March 9 - Farm Center No. Five was organized at Gold Flat last night with F.C. LONGS as president, C.B. BOWERS as vice-president and Miss Marguerite MARTIN as secretary. There were present Garfield ROBSON of Penn Valley Center, Thomas CASEY, A. MARTEL and Mrs. M.B. CHURCH, also from Penn Valley, who assisted the locals with their organization. It was practically agreed at the meeting that the sixth farm center should be formed at Blue Tent, where there are sufficient farmers to organize a center. This will permit of an application being made then to the supervisors for a farm advisor, the end for which the farmers have been working. Find Body of Grass Valley Man in Creek GRASS VALLEY (Nevada Co.), March 9 - William COFFEY, a well-known young man of this city whose appetite for liquor has led him into the depths, was found dead this morning by a crowd of schoolboys who were passing along Colfax avenue on their way to school. The lads called the attention of several passersby to the body of a man laying face down in the creek, with several inches of snow covering his body. Coroner T.M. HARRIS was notified and within a short time removed the remains to his undertaking parlors. How COFFEY met his death will never be known, but it is the general belief that he was in a drunken condition and wandered into the stream without any knowledge of where he was going. He was recently in a cutting escapade that nearly finished him. Valuable Horse Is Stolen in Redding REDDING (Shasta Co.), March 9 - A horse thief is at work in Redding, as found by Mrs. William JUNKANS. Some time Wednesday night some one unlocked the stable door and took out a valuable riding animal, together with a saddle and bridle. The thief or thieves closed the door behind them. It was not known that the horse was stolen until yesterday morning, when the stall was found empty. Sheriff ROSS and the police are at work on the case. They have sent out a good description of the horse in all directions. Youth 20 Years Old Confesses Robbery to Sheriff of Yuba County MARYSVILLE (Yuba Co.), March 9 - Earl CAMERON, aged 20 years, was arrested today by Sheriff C.J. McCOY and confessed to robbing the stores of the Sacramento River Supply company and I.S. LOSEY at Meridian Wednesday night. CAMERON was arrested on D street by Sheriff McCOY on a meager description furnished by Sutter county officers. He confessed outright to the robberies and took the sheriff to his room in a Japanese lodging house where he had articles valued at $150, which he stole from the two stores. CAMERON told the sheriff he committed the robberies because he was broke and needed money badly. He was turned over to Sheriff NOYES of Sutter county this afternoon. Chico Vecino Water System Is Purchased By Buying McFeely Plant Steffens Consolidates Two Systems CHICO (Butte Co.), March 9 - By a deal concluded yesterday, in which he purchased the water system operated by J. J. McFEELY in Chico Vecino, B. H. STEFFEN of the Chico Vecino Water company became the sole owner of the entire water supply of Chico Vecino. The agreement was drawn yesterday by DAVIDS and NEVILLE, and immediately signed by the principals. STEFFEN has been supplying the residents on the east side of the Esplanade with water, and McFEELY those on the west. Some time ago it was deemed advisable to consolidate the two systems and the upshot of the transaction was that STEFFEN purchased McFEELY's plant outright. STEFFEN will immediately begin on the erection of an 80-foot tower supporting a 25,000 gallon tank. Contracts for the construction and material were let within a few minutes after papers of the sale were signed. In addition, STEFFEN will put in extra pumping equipment and other improvements in order to bring his system completely up to date. McFEELY was a pioneer in the water supply business in Chico Vecino, starting some 12 years ago. Five years ago STEFFEN put in a plant on the east side. The installation of this system aided largely in the development of that section of the community. Chico Man Is Member Of Aviation Corps CHICO (Butte Co.), March 9 - Edgar SCARBOROUGH, son of Mrs. J.W. BENNER, who recently enlisted in the aviation corps of the United States army, and is now stationed at San Diego, will leave there for New York about the middle of the month. From New York he will go to Panama, together with about fifty other members of his company, to defend the canal in case of a hostile move.
