Russell, Dead At Napa, CA, 8 Feb 1890 Article Text: The remains of Hiram S. RUSSELL who died at Napa last Saturday (8 Feb 1890) were brought to Martinez on Monday and interred in the Alhambra Cemetery at that place. The deceased was well known in this county being a son of Major Samuel RUSSELL who died in 1863. He went to Ann Arbor University in 1872, but was compelled by the rigorous climate to return to California before completing the course. He then engaged in the mercantile business in Pacheco, and afterwards in Sacramento with George T. BUSH, but owing to il health, removed to Pope Valley, where he engaged in farming, the dread disease consumption had selected him as a victim and carried him away at the early age of 37 years and 3 months. Deceased was a brother of Mrs. George T. (Brunette) BUSH and brother in law of Mrs. RUSSELL of this place. The funeral service took place on Monday morning at the Congregational Church, many friends and acquaintances attending to do honor to the memory of the dead. Note: At one time $ Jun 1876 Hiram RUSSELL married Katherine "Kate" POTWIN. I believe the marriage was short lived and they were divorced. Kate took her maiden name of POTWIN back and used it until she died in her 90's.
