A Brief Resume of Important Happenings in Coast States That Will Interest Everybody. [Selections from this section:] The Fraser river salmon run is light. Santa Maria is building a fruit cannery. The Mount Wilson electric railway is a sure thing. The Lick Observatory reports an aurora borealis last week. The daily output of jute bags at the Walla Walla Penitentiary is 4,000 bags. In the gizzard of a duck at Sheridan a $2.50 gold nugget was found a few days ago. The new stage road from Flagstaff, A. T. [Arizona Territory], to the Grand Canon of the Colorado is now open. Earnest T. Battolph has been arrested at Guerneville on suspicion of being one of the Cazadero stage robbers. "Frenchy," who assisted Binggy to escape froom the Santa Rosa prison, has been sent to San Quentin for five years. Large quantities of mescal are being smuggled across the line into Arizona from Mexico and given to the Indians. It is believed the two Cazadero stage robbers cannot escape the officials, who according to report, have the rascals penned. A telephone line from Nevada City to Grass Valley, thence to Sacramento and other portions of the State, is to be constructed.
