Russell. Dead, At Martinez, 24 Feb 1879 Article Text: Mr. V.B. (Vallaseo) RUSSELL was a gentleman well known throoughout this county and liked by all who knew him. He gave promise of a brillant future, and had death not intervened, he would have no doubt reached a higher position in life. He held many responsible positions during life, the last was as County Recorder, and no one was more familuar with the records of the county than "Val" as he was called. He was generous to a fault and none can say ought against his honest and integrity of purpose. The funeral which took place on Tuesday was largely attended by his relatives and friends , of which several came from Sacramento, Oakland and San Francisco. His wife and child has the entire sympathy of the community in her bereavement. Note: Val was the son of Samuel RUSSELL and brother to Sanuel, Brunette and Hiram RUSSELL.
