Intense pains which were felt several days after the broken bones, one of which had protruded through the flesh, had been set, caused Mr. DURHAM to go to the Merritt hospital in Oakland for treatment. An infection had started and continued to spread despite every effort of the attending surgeons to halt the dread septicemia. Finally on Thursday it was decided to amputate the right arm to stop the infection but the following day the poison was found to have spread throughout his entire system, and all efforts were turned to a final desperate battle to save the life of the unfortunate man. Mr. DURHAM failed to respond to the treatment however and death ended his intense suffering at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. A member of a pioneer Contra Costa family and son of the late J.E. DURHAM of Concord. Lee S. DURHAM was born on the DURHAM home ranch near Concord 51 years ago. He married Miss Alice JOSLIN of Antioch and is survived by his widow and three sisters, Mrs. A.B. McKENZIE of Martinez, Mrs. W.J. LORIMER of San Jose and Mrs Aurelia BURY of Manila P.I. As a young man Mr. DURHAM decided to become a banker and to that end entered the employ of the Bank of Antioch. Late in 1903 he came to Martinez to take a position in the Bank of Martinez, being elevated to the post of assistant cashier which he held until 1913 when he resigned to become cashier at the Bank of Brentwood. With the purchase by the Bank of Antioch of teh Brentwood Bank , Mr. DURHAM was made an assistant cashier of the former institution and manager of the Brentwood Bank which post he held until his death. Lee DURHAM was a man of splendid charactor, possessing a personality which made him a friend and confidante of those with whiom he was associated. The passing of no man iin recent months has caused the wide spread and genuinely profound sorrow as that of Lee DURHAM to whose heart broken widow and grieving sisters the sympayhy of thousands of friends is extended. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the Preston Funeral Parlors in Antioch with Interment following in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery.
