Judge McKENZIE's death came as a shock to members of his family and to his thousands of friends despite the fact that he had been ill so long. Judge McKENZIE was born in Goderich, Ontario, Canada, March 21, 1860. IN 1881 he went to New York and 10 years later he came to San Francisco where he matriculated Hastings Law School, graduating in 1895. That year he came to Contra Costa and two years later he married Melvina DURHAM, member of a pioneer Eastern Contra Costa family. Many important cases were handled by Superior Judge McKENZIE during his terms on the bench here, some of them running into hundreds of thousands of dollars and some of the decisions he rendered being the bases upon which other important cases in other prts of the state were considered. Few appeals were taken to the high courts from Judge McKENZIE'S decisions and only twice was his judgemant reversed by the appelate or Supreme courts. Judge McKENZIE is survived by his widow and nine children. The children are Malcom McKENZIE of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Paul NAVE of Walnut Creek, Maitland McKENZIE of Alameda, Mrs. Lorilee GILBERTI , Miss Roma McKENZIE, George McKENZIE, Mrs. Marion PRIOR and Miss Kathleen McKENZIE, all of Martinez and Ross McKENZIE of Seattle, Washington.
