San Francisco, Cal., March 17 - The ambitions of Bishop I. TIKHON, official head of the Greek Russian Church in North America, have been overcome by the death of his brother, Michael, and he has abandoned his cathedral and is going back to the little rural town where he was born, in southern Russia. The devotion of the brothers toward each other was great, and they were regarded as inseparable. Michael saw and heard Tina De SPADA, an Italian prima donna, a few months ago, and fell in love with her. He attended the opera every night and obtained an introduction to the singer. He sent flowers, letters and presents, but his attentions were in vain, and he pined away and died. Bishop TIKHON had been sad and melancholy since then, and his people have believed him to be in danger of collapse. He finally decided to go away, and so he has surrendered control of his cathedral to his diocesan secretary and will go to Russia and ask the Holy Synod of the church to appoint his successor. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ CA-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
