Father CROKE; Martin GILMORE to Miss Belle TAYLOR, both of Stockton. BY STATE TELEGRAPH, San Francisco, May 12 -- -Mrs. Governor McCORMICK died suddenly on the last day of April, after it was supposed by the attendant physician that danger had passed. -On the 4th instant, at 4 a.m., whilst the stage was on the opposite side of the Colorado river from Hardyville Landing, Arizona, a sad accident happened as follows: The driver hallowed for the ferry-man without success and called out to those inside to discharge a pistol to attract attention. C.L. STRONG took his pistol to cock it and finding the hammer difficult to raise, pulled it back with force, but not catching, the charge went off and passing through an inch board, killed the driver, James TUTTLE. An inquest was held and Mr. STRONG exonerated without the slightest blame. There was another man with the driver on the outside and 1 or 2 persons beside Mr. STRONG were on the inside. It was simply a most unfortunate accident. SONORA, May 12 -- A man named PARKER, a butcher at Montezuma, in this county [Tuolumne], was shot and killed at that place last night by Jack MILNER, a saloon keeper from Copperopolis. ARRIVAL of the 'ARROW' -- Man Drowned -- The steamer 'Arrow' from Miller's landing, via Adamville and Tuolumne City, arrived yesterday, with 100 tons of wheat, 10 bales wool, 2 coops chickens and a lot of sundries, and 6 passengers. On Thursday night, May 9th, while lying in Salt slough, Samuel ACASTER, deck hand, fell overboard and was drowned. Body not recovered. DANGEROUS ACCIDENT -- At 6 o'clock on Saturday evening, says the Sacramento 'Union' of yesterday, a man who afterward gave his name as James READMOND, was brought to the County Hospital by John BECK. BECK stated that he was driving a span of horses, with a load of wood, some where 7 miles from the city, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and that the injured man, whose name he did not know, was riding with him on the load. The horses started to run and BECK jumped off and caught them by the head. On looking back he found that his companion had been thrown off and run over. The injuries sustained show that the wheels passed over his right arm, neck and lower part of the head. The patient remains in a condition of stupor the most of the time, but has given his name and seems to remember being run over. Dr. PHELAN think the injury will prove fatal. BY STATE TELEGRAPH, San Francisco, May 14 -- -Dr. Benjamin OBER, a physician of this city [San Francisco] since 1851, died suddenly at his residence last evening, of heart disease. -The dead body of a man was found floating in the bay at North Beach, between Powell and Stockton streets, this morning. >>THURSDAY, 16 MAY 1867<< MARRIED -- near French Camp, at the residence of the bride's father, May 14th, by Rev. E.B. TAFT; Godfrey SMITH to Miss Rosanna TRALOR. MARRIED -- in Elk Grove, at the residence of the bride's father, May 11th, by Rev. Father COTTER; Major Wm. L. USTICK to Miss Julia SHANNON. [No Cards.] -------------------------------------------------------- STARTLING SUICIDE -- About half-past 5 o'clock yesterday morning, Coroner BLAKE was called upon to hold an inquest over the body of an Austrian named Samuel STEPHENS, who committed suicide in the eastern part of the city, by shooting himself through the stomach with a shot gun loaded with a ball. On the inquest the following testimony was elicited: NICOLAS VIZELICH, sworn -- I know deceased; his name is Samuel STEPHENS; is 45 years of age; was unmarried; knew him first in 1853 or the Fall of 1854; he was up at Vancouver's Island during the Fraser river excitement; made a little money and started for his home in Europe. Before arriving in San Francisco he threw his money on deck; some of it went overboard; on his arrival in San Francisco he was arrested on board of the steamer as a crazy man; was at that time brought to Stockton and place in the Insane Asylum; he remained in the Asylum 3 1/2 years; heard through an acquaintance that he was at the Asylum; was requested to call and see him; I did not think him insane; took him from the Asylum on his being discharged on the 30th of November last, and he has been quite well apparently ever since he came to me. I was not paying him wages; I did not consider him earning anything more than his board and clothing; saw him the last time day before yesterday; heard nothing to lea! d me to expect he was about to destroy himself; saw him no more until my brother-in-law told me Samuel had destroyed himself by shooting himself with a gun; I then went immediately after the Coroner. This is all I know about it. NICOLAS ENDICH, sworn -- I have known deceased since 1854; knew him first in Jackson; he was a poor and destitute man in this country; I think he has some property in Austria; saw him last about 7 o'clock last evening; saw him again about half-past 5 o'clock this morning, dead; saw smoke rising from the building; went to the place, entered the house and found deceased lying on the bed and the bed on fire; I suppose the gun, when discharged, fired the bed; when I entered his room I found the gun resting on a chair within his reach; I believe fully that he shot himself; never knew him to have any difficulty of any kind. JOHN MILCO, sworn -- I do not know him; only knew him by sight. THE JURY returned the following verdict: "O'Neal Township, San Joaquin county, California, May 15, 1867. We the jury summoned to inquire into the cause of the death of Samuel STEPHENS, so find that he was a native of Austria, aged about 45 years, a single man, and came to his death by a gun shot fired by his own hand. [Signed] W.C. MILLER, Foreman E.T. SNIDER S. KAISER C.T. BALDWIN E.R. ROBERTS John ROBINSON Hiram CADIEN THE CORONER found the body of the deceased badly burned form the bed having been set on fire. It is supposed that STEPHENS had discharged the gun by rising up in bed and pulling it quickly forward with the muzzle pointing directly at his stomach, the lock having been sprung by a strap fastened to the frame of weighing scales which stood at the foot of the bed. This appears to be supposition only, however. The body was found lying on its back in bed and it was also found that the ball had gone through the backbone. The remains were interred by Coroner Blake, yesterday forenoon. An Austrian, who was acquainted with the deceased, informs us that his name was Vasilio STEPHENS, and the same gentleman writes the nativity of deceased thus: "Cattero, Risano, Austria, Slavonia." -------------------------------------------------------- FATAL ACCIDENT -- Near Visalia, on Sat-week, a horse, ridden by a little boy named Benny JORDAN, ran off. Some persons followed on horseback, and seeing the boy nearly exhausted dashed on rapidly to catch the animal. In doing so they jostled Benny from his seat, and his foot and leg being passed through the strap above the stirrup he was dragged some 60 yards, his head striking the hard ground at every step. He was taken up senseless and terribly bruised, and after lingering apparently in great pain until Sunday morning, he died. DROWNED -- A sad misfortune occurred at Hite's Cove, Mariposa county, recently. A little son of Mr.&Mrs. Thomas MARSHALL, of that place, accidently fell into a tub of water and was drowned.
