On the 7th a party of 75 Indians, well armed, attacked Daly’s Ferry, at the crossing of Mad river, 5 miles above Arita. The inmates of the Ferry House, 7 in number, were sitting down to supper at the time of the attack, and made a rush for the river, which was reached amid a shower of bullets, the Indians pursuing and firing upon them. They were obliged to land their canoe and separate in the woods. Mr. DALY reached Arita with the intelligence, and a party started immediately after the Indians. When half way between Arita and the Ferry House, they met Mrs. DALY, badly wounded in 1 arm, her infant in the other. Two more of her children she hid in the woods, who were afterwards found. Mr. DALY was wounded. Also 2 soldiers that were with them. NITEZE, a Frenchman, is probably killed. Geo. DANSKIN, a boy, was taken prisoner. When Mrs. DALY fell wounded, the Indians took from her person her ! finger and ear rings, and demanded money. They spoke good English. The house of the Ferry was robbed and then burned. They next destroyed the house of Mr. MUHLBERG, 2 miles down the river, and fled to the mountains. McCANABA’s pack train was attacked and robbed. The citizens of Eureka met and adopted resolutions, calling for aid from Gen. WRIGHT to subdue the Indians. >>SATURDAY, 14 JUNE 1862
