(Potwin) Sherman Article Text: But barely 7 months since all that was mortal of John SHERMAN was consigned to the earth, the sad intelligence is borne to the numerous friends and relatives of the bereaved family of the demise of Mrs. Minnie J. SHERMAN. After a brief sickness the bereaved wife died on Tuesday evening, October 19th, at her residence, from cerebro meningitis. She was a devoted wife and mother, and highly esteemed by the community here, amidst who she has resided in the frequent performance of benevolence, for many years. Her two charges, Charles her son, and Oscar STONE, a nephew, will sadly miss the loving thoughtful care of so devoted a mother, who before death closed the aching eyes , literally provided for their future. The funeral took place on Thursday, and, with a wealth of flowers typical of the love and respect of numerous friends and relatives, the remains were placed by the side of those of her husband (In Pacheco Cemetery). The funeral cortege was very long, numerous friends th! roughout Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco and Solano counties, honoring the memory of a noble, unselfish, true-hearted woman. The funeral services, under the auspices of the Christian Churchm were impressive. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ CA-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! A year ago, while performing in Oregon, his favorite "clown horse" Jack, struck him in the breast while performing in the ring, inflicting injuries from which Mr. SHERMAN has since suffered great pain, and resulted in his demise on Sunday at 7:15 p.m., at his home in Concord. For some months past he has been seriously ill, and at times hopes were entertained of his ultimate recovery. On Sunday he took a turn for the worse, was delirious all day, imagining himself in the ring or trainng horses, until death claimed his victim. Mr. SHERMAN was a native of Illinois, and came to this state across the plains in 1860, lived for a short time in Oregon and then removed to this county, where he has since resided. He was 41 years of age. An autopsy was held on Monday by Doctors LeFLIER, BRAGDON and CAROTHERS, and the cause of death was ascertained to be aneurism of the arch of the aorta. The funeral will take place at 1:00 p.m., today, from his late residence at Concord, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, the remains will be interred at the Pacheco Cemetery. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ CA-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! One of the lines parted at first, but with the other Mr. SHERMAN managed to keep them under control until that parted also, when they became wholly unmanageable, and dashed off at railroad speed. Coming down Main Street they headed for the sidewalk of E. HOOK and Company - runaway horses generally do - but a dry goods box dexterously shied at them compelled them to shear away, and keep on their course down street. In the mean time their antics had become generally known, and on passing BACON'S Store, a lariat was skillfullt thrown by E. LeGRAND, which arrested them immediately. The buggy was badly damaged. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ CA-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! TM http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com
