There is an understanding that if you wanted it to be a couple more days as a mini vacation that rate would still apply. You must notify La Quinta Inn on Bonita Rd right off of 805 before you turn east to go to the Golf Course by 4 March for this to apply. You must also mention our society to be given this rate. Recently remodeled and always a great place to stay. Can you tell I use them when I travel. : > ) phone 619 691 1211 email lq0647gm@laquinta.com Remember offer expires 4 March 2013. Would you be kind of enough to share this information with your members and the organizations you belong to. Also here is an electronic copy of the flyer that you may want to offer to your members. 2. BOB DUBEL
    3. Timberloft Girl Scout Camp operated at the site of the former Miami Lodge. My book To Yosemite by Stage, Raymond to Wawona and Remembering Cedarbrook Inn, Zelda Garey Dubel, 2011, says it operated from 1946 to 1958. There was an article in the Sierra Star 17 July 1958. However, it was still operating at the time of the Harlow Fire on 11 July 1961 because the Girl Scouts were evacuated to Bass Lake. Can someone please tell me the closing date? If you know any of the Girl Scouts who attended, please tell me about your adventures. Thanks. Zelda Dubel, former owner of Cedarbrook Inn.

    3. Our California History & Genealogy Room of the Fresno County Library has a series of microfilms on deaths in California from 1905 to 1939. If your person is listed, it will tell me in which county the person died. Then you can contact that county for a death certificate or perhaps request someone to locate an obituary. I will look Tuesday for you. Flora McKinnon was born on the Isle of Mull Scotland on 5th Nov. 1859; I know that she left Scotland to settle in the USA. I have the 1881 Scottish census showing a "Flora McKinnon" living in Glasgow; if that is her she must have left Scotland in 1881 or later. I have a diary from another of her family which states "Flora died 23rd Nov. 1928 in Calif". This is all the information I have. It's very likely that she married and would be buried etc. under that name, whatever it is? Any help would be appreciated, as I said it's a long shot. Her mother, Sarah McKenzie, married for a 2nd time -- a man with the last name of Hawke. They had a child Hazel Hawke, who married an Elam and lived in the Raymond area until her death. There are still Elam's in the area. David Mackie homesteaded property off of Rd. 222 or Bass Lake Road. Of what's left, my parents have 8 acres, my aunt has 8 and my cousin, Clyde Mackie has many many more. A cabin was built on the property in the 1930s and we still visit it often for vacation/weekends. I'm interested in any/all info about the area, especially Grub Gulch and the mines in the area. If you go up on www.familysearch.org <http://www.familysearch.org/> , the Latter Day Saints website, and go to the "search" database, you can enter the "Motherwell" surname and cite Scotland. You will come up with aro 86 listings, including possibly Lena's parents. This will include James, Elizabeth, Robert and David, all in an 1840-1850 timeframe, and all living in Ohio. Attached are the results of death index, social security and census searches. Some of this may be new information for you. This is the extent of what I could find for you. He was known as Watt to the family but everything I've found after he left Tennessee indicates he went by Luther. In addition to the info she gives, I've learned that the family lived at what was then 2411 Hopkins, Oakland, CA. I understand that Hopkins is part of what is now MacArthur. My grandfather, Isaac Asberry Allen, had three older brothers who moved west. James Robert Allen went to Texas, married and only had one daughter and she had no children, so that line has died. He was living in San Francisco at his death. George Lee Allen moved to Oklahoma, then Texas and eventually to New Mexico. He had 7 children and in 2002 I made contact with one of his grandchildren and have since met all the living grandchildren (my second cousins). I would love to make contact with some descendant of Luther Watson Allen so that both I and the other second cousins could possibly know them. If you can find anything on descendants of Mary, Delmar or Eugene. They would be close to 100 now, so probably are deceased. Luther Watson Allen was the oldest of 6 children and my grandfather was the youngest so my dad's first cousins were much older than he. Thanks for your offer of research. Tonight I would like to break with tradition and intitiate a Roll Call. Normally I don't like doing these on larger lists, but in this case, it might be a good idea to try. We have a list membership of about 28 people. Among those, surely we have some undiscovered relatives. :-) Here's how we'll do this particular Roll Call. List one name per e-mail or one couple or family per e-mail. Please do not list three to four generations. That gets a little hard to follow especially for those in plain text Digest Mode. Remember to place the name you're researching in the Subject line of your e-mail. That will make it easier for those that browse their list mail. Also mention any ancestor you're having a difficult time finding. Maybe the answer lies among the membership of this list. Its always nice to crumble a brick wall or two. :-) Please be brief in your list queries. Happy hunting! He arrived in Oakland after1900 (they were on the 1900 census in Decatur, AL) and died there May 16, 1935. I'm attaching a JPEG of an email which is a transcript of an old note from the oldest niece of Luther Watson Allen. I appreciate your interest and any help. The address comes from the 1933 Oakland City Directory, which was sent to me by another nice CA researcher. Hopkins was known as Hopkins Blvd (named after one of the early legendary titans in California history after it became a state). After Gen. Douglas MacArthur was recalled from Korea by Pres. Harry Truman, in 1952, the Oakland populace voted to change the name of the boulevard to MacArthur Blvd. The 2411 address is located in East Oakland. If you can provide a timeline for Luther in Oakland, it may help to unearth additional information for you. I hope to have the time to do that for people one day. 1. [CA-O-G-G] Christmas tradition
    2. S&D Miller
    3. Just a reminder, even though Oakhurst and the surrounding area has Grown over the years, the one thing most appreciated by newcomers and Oldtimers is "hometown" traditions. Next Saturday evening, December 2nd is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting And arrival of Santa Claus. Choral presentations, Carols, Hot Chocolate, Hot Spiced Apple Cider and Hot Dogs. Around the community tree are trees for Each of the local elementary schools to decorate. Welcome to all, 5p.m. at the Talking Bear (another Oakhurst tradition) at The intersection of Hwy 41 and Rd 425 (Crane Valley Rd) in the Century 21 Parking lot. Happy Thanksgiving, Steve
