    3. Hello, folks. I'm Laura, a new list member, and I'd like to offer my two cents worth to this discussion. Tim - As I see it, there are two possible scenarios here. 1: The person who asked you not to post certain information was controlling (viewing himself as sole spokesperson for the group), was malicious, or in some other way saw fit to limit or impede the enjoyment of others on the list-serve. I doubt this is the case, but if it were, I'd say such a person can only have power over you (and the list-serve) if you allow them to control your behavior. Thus, you owe it to yourself to post the diary as planned. 2: The person was merely expressing an opinion as to what he saw as the confines of the list-serve, casting a vote for certain limitations on the scope of discussion. Even the person who offended you did not see fit to speak for the whole group. In this case, you are the only one setting this person up as sole dictator of the group's topics for discussion. If a vote system is in place, and especially with so many other votes to the contrary, it seems logical to go ahead and post what you had previously intended. E-mail and list-serves are wonderful tools for facilitating the exchange of information and for meeting people of like interests. Unfortunately, mis-communication is often magnified to the same degree as communication. Hurt feelings and disappointment abound, but I usually find it best to keep trying, even if I only hear from one person who tries to make me feel welcome. If I didn't, I would have cut myself off from most potentially constructive situations a long time ago. List-serves are like wagon trains. A group of people embark upon uncharted territory, with perhaps some loosely-defined constitution in place governing the group. Differences are bound to occur. The decision is, of course, yours, but I'd personally like to see you get beyond this bump in the road and to reap the rewards that come with sharing your interests. I've blathered on long enough. No offense is intended with this message - I hope none is taken. Take care.
