    3. Hi Ruth, Peggy and Jennifer; The information I posted came from a book at my local library: Berman, Bruce D. "Encyclopedia of American Shipwrecks." Boston: Mariner's Press Inc., 1972. This large book covers hundreds of years and lists shipwrecked vessels over 50 gross tons. Section 4 alone lists 1318 shipwreck listings off the North American West coast. Unfortunately, it only gives the name of the vessel, rig, tonnage, date built, date wrecked, place wrecked, and the cause. I have been told that my 3rd great grandfather Joseph (Joshua) Perkins Norris was a "shipowner and captain." He and his schooner "were lost at sea in a storm, off of San Francisco, between 1850 and 1856." Thus my list, and thus my interest. I don't know if he was arriving or departing. I've extended my search to 1847 - 1860, and to ships other than schooners, to be on the safe side. Thanks for the suggestion, Jennifer, I will look into contacting the SF Maritime Museum at Aquatic Park. (Ruth and Peggy, this may help you too.) Thanks all -- -- Dave ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
