Bill, you've given me a mystery here... I saw many citations for John SUTTER Sr but the information on his children was very weird. John A. SUTTER Jr died Acapulco MEX Sep 21 1897 There is a citatation that says his wife was Nicolasa SOLIS and they had Juan Norbet SUTTER and there is an Anna Sutter YOUNG who died age 81 in SF Jan 23 1970. I didn't check for an obit, but it might be of value. Nicolasa SUTTER (Mrs John A Sutter Jr) died age 72 Feb 18 1922 (native of Acapulco MEX) Mother of Reginald, John N and Mrs. Christina Von VOLBEK, Mrs. Anna YOUNG. Now, the NDGW has John Augustus SUTTER Jr married to Mari(no a) Del Carmen RIVAS their children are listed as 1. John A. SUTTER III b Alcapulco MEX 2. Anna Elisa SUTTER b Alcapulco MEX 1856 3. Carmen SUTTER born Acapulco MEX This information is given by grandson Capt Frank Sutter LINK, who is living in Berkeley when he gave the information. There is more on his family but .... Could Mari(a) have been his first wife?? and Nicolasa the second? What else do you know? There is a book cited caled Sutter of California by Julian Dana. I didn't have a chance to check on this, I was confused as to the wife's name. Sandra... By the way, Juan Norbet SUTTER (son of Sutter JR and Nicolasa) had a daugher, Delores SUTTER KASON who had a son on Sep 22 1934 and that is also cited in the CAIF. In 1930 there was a John A. SUTTER III at 2246 S. Antonio Avenue Alameda CA ========================================================= From: "Bill Williams" <[email protected]> Subject: California lookups Date: Wed, 21 Oct 1998 20:20:03 +0100 I don't know if the California Room would have the information I'm looking for. I'm trying to find information on JOHN SUTTER JR's wife MARIA DEL CARMEN RIVAS.... I would like to know if there is anything listing her parentage??? I think it is extremely generous of you to do lookups for people! Thank You! Pauli That was her whole given name.... the simpler form would be Carmen Rivas...at least I think it would be Carmen instead of Maria.... the story in our family was that my great great grandmothers sister, Carmen, married Capt. John Sutters son. In checking with Sutters Fort I was given that name as her full maiden name. The mystery is that my great great grandmothers last name was OSORIO...I'm curious about why they had different last names...I've been told that their mother was unmarried so maybe different fathers would explain it?? Anyway, I would like to find out if there is anything documented about her parentage...I've been told her mothers name should be Josepha(Josefa) Verdugo.
