Does anyone know how Leland Stanford (of the Big Four, railroad empire and Stanford University, among other things) got to California? He had a store in Michigan Bluff, Placer County from 1853-1855, before going on to Sacramento. My family were his first cousins and were also in Michigan Bluff and El Dorado County at the same time and I'm wondering if they came together. I haven't had luck figuring out how my family came so thought I might go at it another way through someone famous.
