Folks, I was taken to task (in a very nice way) a week or so ago when I ended a thread on earthquakes (on NORCAL, I think). While I stood by my decision (since the message content at the time was non-emergency related), I realized we do have a rootsweb void here in California regarding earthquakes. So (fool that I am) I've created a new list: CA-EARTHQUAKE-L (and D). I envision this list to be SOLELY devoted to California earthquakes any place, any time. I expect there will be a great deal of list traffic directly after earthquakes (ie Hector week before last) and around anniversaries (ie Oct. 17, 1999 - the ten year anniversary of Loma Prieta). However, we can use it as a forum for earthquakes preparedness and a repository for earthquake-related URLS. I would hope that everyone will subscribe even if there is little or no traffic in the event that there is an earthquake and we still have access to our computers, we can use the list as a clearinghouse and a base station. I also am only able to post this to the lists I subscribe to, so if those of you on other CA lists, please pass the message on. This list BY NO MEANS replaces local and state emergency response however it may be a means for the rootsweb community to stay in contact - especially as we know each other so well already. I'm very open to the content and management of CA-EARTHQUAKE. I have no real preconceived vision for the list other than what is listed above. Although earthquakes happen every where, California is uniquely conscious of earthquake activity. This is our list. I expect a certain amount of "chat" and earthquake anecdotes but please try to stay ontopic and relevant. Please do not debate the merits of this list these lists but feel free to either email me privately or subscribe to CA-EARTHQUAKE and post your thoughts! To subscribe to the list version, send email to CA-EARTHQUAKE-L-request@rootsweb.com with nothing but the word SUBSCRIBE in the body text.
