Diane: The Butte County Recorder probably has death records. The county offices are in Oroville so you might give them a call. They won't look it up for you but probably can tell you what years they cover. California didn't have regular death certificates until 1905 or so. Cemetery records may be available and probably a newspaper for obits/articles. Go to California GenWeb and click on Butte County. Perhaps they can refer you to specific persons/sites. Good luck.
