Gudde, 1975 "Californis Gold Camps", says The diggings beside the (Matheneys) Creek are now witin the city limits of El Dorado. They are mentioned as rich diggings by E D Perkiins on Dec 25, 1849. They are listed as a gold camp in the county history of 1883(p203) The USBureau of the Census lists 672 individuals on Mathinias (or Mathines) Creek in 1850. A Mathines Creek Mine is dexcribed in 1888 in Mining Bureau, VIII, (p190), and is still listed in 1916, though idle. The creek, a tributary to the North Fork of the Cosumnes River....is shown on maps as Mathenas Creek. It may be the same as Maith Creek near Diamond Springs.
