Does anyone have any thoughts on how to locate an ancestor for whom only incomplete information exists? My GGG grandmother was from Illinois, born about 1836. Her second marriage was to Elijah Perry in Missouri. She joined him by sailing around the horn with 2 children to California prior to 1858. (I know this much because my GG grandfather (John Francis Perry) was born in Fiddletown, CA. in 1858.) Her name prior to her second marriage was either Adeline Mapese or Celia Mapes, and she died in San Jose, in 1898. (No way to know if she remarried, either. Elijah, her second husband, died in 1878.) Also, how could I find out when Elijah arrived in California, and how? He would have arrived between 1849 and 1858. He did find something, because he paid her voyage with gold.
