    1. [GOLDRUSH] Hodge Diary ,1850+ Mich.to Ca.& surnames friends/relatives
    2. The following names are from a diary written by HC.Hodge(there may be another letter after the "e" or its an ending sweep with the pen) He left Michigan, either Pulaski or Concord ,in abt 1849 and arrived in Nevada Co. abt Oct 1850. The diary is written in July 1851. By now he is a practicing attorney, recently elected Nevada Co. Treasurer and part time miner. He talks about some of the issues of the time in the gold camps along with relatives and friends in Michigan and those that are working in his area and others over on the American River. I picked this booklet up in 1959-65 . I dont recall just where I found it,as Ive traveled all over the western states kicking around mining areas until about 1974 Thats about the time the total destruction was beginning from being visited by hoards of explorers, some who tore down entire buildings and bulldozed vast areas looking for "booty". The old wagons remaining and all the old cars I'd see dating from 1915 up disappeared beginning in 74. I quit visiting and researching these areas then. Anyway,I think I found the booklet in an old building in the general area, but Im not absolutely certain. I have the booklet in storage about 600 miles from me,but I took notes and have them with me for reference incase anyone has questions. All email I write on this subject goes to Michigan also in hopes of snagging a connection there too . Homer Horatio Milton James & Sarah Reuben & Mary Abraham (sp?) He's quite emotional when speaking of the latter two deaths. He mentions trying to forget the painful past of these deaths The church he attends is the Methodist Episcopals who have quarterly meetings in his office or building He receives a publication "The Patriot"which he loved to read and the "Nevada Journal" (he sent copies back home to Pulaski friends or relatives ) I mentioned this incase anyone still has those copies,as this letter is also emailed to Michigan besides Nevada Co. in hopes of someone there related. Ive listed seemingly unimportant facts to many that may view this, but this email is going to various Cities in the California and Michigan in hopes of finding links to this man and any of his ancestors. For that matter even others as myself that may have info on this man or his names mentioned in the diary. If anyone makes any connections,Id be interested in knowing the results,so please write me. If Im unsubscribed from this forum in the future email me at Lrjwj@aol.com. John Johnston Palm Springs Ca T
