    3. Hi Joyce, and welcome. You are luck to know the date and place (especially the county) of death for Ben! Without a death certificate or newspaper article is your information from a letter or , bible, or ? A note here for anyone researching Grizzly Flat(s). Gudde_California Gold Camps_ lists a Grizzly Flat in Placer County, one in Plumas County and Grizzly Flat_s_ (also knows as Grizzle Flat) in El Dorado County. There are a total of 15 locations begining with the word Grizzly. The El Dorado County GenWeb Page: http://midtown.net/mirish/eldorado/default.htm Has resources for searching the county along with this vitals information: El Dorado County Recorder-Clerk 360 Fair Lane Placerville, CA 95667 (530) 621-5490 Birth index - 1903 to present Marriage index - 1850 to present Death index - 1903 to present Mining Claims index The Mountain Democrat (oldest surviving newspaper in California-1851) link can also be found on the El Dorado County Page. The Democrat site lists all the newspapers serving the county and the years they were in service. Also there are many historical articles of the gold rush era for you to read online (while Sandra is at the Library looking for your obit:-)))). A search at the USGS site for cemeteries in El Dorado County can be done here: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Have fun, Carolyn Joyce Mason wrote: > > Hello, > I am new to the list and am interested in learning if any > information is available on my ancestor Benjamin Franklin Mason who > drowned at Grizzly Flat, El Dorado County CA on June 9,1858.
