>From Brian: = = = = = = The lists.rootsweb.com computer, one of RootsWeb's two main list servers, is still down. On Saturday morning we lost a substantial part of the machine's operating system. That meant, in essence, that we were going to have to rebuild the machine's software from scratch. Since we were going to have to reinstall and reconfigure the operating system, it seemed like this was as good of time as any to upgrade the machine's hardware. At this point we have the listserver's hardware upgraded to the extent that the server should be 2-6 times faster than it was. We also have the software recovered to the point where we can log onto the machine in a normal fashion and start configuring the operating system in preparation for a return to normal operations. We expect to begin clearing our queues (we believe we have lost very little if any mail) sometime between Monday and Tuesday evenings, and to be fully back to normal operations by Wednesday evening. We will probably try to process subscribe and unsubscribe requests before processing posts, but things will inevitably come out as sort of a hodge-podge until the queues are cleared. Thanks for your patience while we recover from this disaster, and a special thanks to RootsWeb's Members, Sponsors, Donors, and Patrons who have collectively made it possible for us to increase the capacity of the server while we repair the crippled operating system. -B -- Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O.
