I have in my posession a letter written by the above. I picked it up 30 years ago in San Diego ,I believe. Im not sure of the letter "e"in his last name or even if its a letter.Otherwise, the rest is clear. The letter is dated July 1851. He is a miner and a lawyer in Grass Valley Calif.and was just elected the County Secretary. He left Pulaski March 28 1849 for the goldfields. In the letter he gives several names of relatives and friends still in Michigan, along with Michigonians that were in the area from the American River to Marysville. He mentions weather, miners incomes, prices, lawlessness and the need for more women in the region If you think you may be related to this man, feel free to write. One problem though;I work out of town and only visit the computer once a week for 30 minutes. Dont get discouraged if I am not prompt in responding. My busy work season slows down by April or may. Ill have more access then. John Johnston
