    1. [GOLDRUSH] CA SITES
    2. Help! My husband installed something on our computer and I lost all my "favorites." Could someone send me sites that pertain to northern CA, particularly the El Dorado Co. and Solano Co. area? I need the address for the El Dorado Co. U S GenWeb Project, too. Also, is there a physician's index somewhere that might bring up my gr. grandfather who was a doctor in Suisun City in 1863? Thanks for your help! Nadine in MO

    1. [GOLDRUSH] Ancestry - Sutter's Fort
    2. Lewis M. Ruddick
    3. Listers: Nan Wolf asked that this ancestry.com listing be brought to your attention. CALIFORNIA NARRATIVES: PIONEER AT SUTTER'S FORT The discovery of gold in northern California in 1849 radically changed the face of the territory. This database illustrates the many changes brought to the area by this one event. The author, Heinrich Lienhard, lived at Sutter's Fort for three years until returning to Switzerland to accompany Johann Sutter's family to America. When he returned in 1850, the settlement he called home was a very different place. This narrative describes life at the fort before and after the historic event, and includes personal commentary on the changed atmosphere in the territory. For those wishing to understand life at Sutter's Fort in the 1840s, this can be an interesting narrative. Bibliography: Library of Congress. 1. [GOLDRUSH] The Duchess Mine - Calaveras County
    2. Greetings, I am new to the list and am working on my EMERY family history. My great-grandfather's brother, William EMERY, and his wife Eliza GREEN moved to California with their three children Charlie, Rose, and George in the late 1800s. William owned and operated the Duchess Mine. I have some wonderful letters sent by William to my ggrandfather over a couse of many years which provide some detail about the running of the mine. Unfortunately the mine never succeeded. I am most interested in connecting with William's descendants through his son George. I've learned that George had a daughter Ellenore who married a man named MUSANTI. At one time in the early 1970s this family lived in the Burlingame, CA area. If anyone else is interested in this particular mine I am happy to share information.

    1. [GOLDRUSH] MARTIN's in Placer or El Dorado Co's
    2. Hello, New to the list here. I am seeking information on MARTIN'S c.1850 in El Dorado Co (I think). One source states they show listed in Placer Co in 1850, but my understanding is that Placer Co was not created until 1851. Milton Martin (reportedly a miner and a minister) disappeared from the Lumpkin Co GA 1850 census, leaving behind wife and some of his children. He reportedly went to CA for the Goldrush sometime before 1850. There is a Milton Martin in El Dorado Co on the 1850 CA index, however, per tax records in 1865 he is still listed as the property owner in GA and then in 1867 wife Cyntha is listed as the owner. Can anyone tell me the route which Milton would have traveled from GA to CA prior to 1850? Perhaps there is a record of this somewhere? Wagon trains etc? Would also like to know what would be the best source for deaths in CA between 1850 and 1870? The following Martin's supposedly went to CA along with Milton: Van Buren Martin E.H. Martin Alex Martin James Martin Any information or leads appreciated. Fianna1@ix.netcom.com

    2. William Disbro
    3. Dear List, I have gotten anew book about the Southern Routes into Calif. in 1849. In it is a bibliography of the sources of documents on the Southern Routes into Calif. The book is called To California on the Southern Route by Patrica Etter and I recogmend it to antone interested in the Southern Routes into Calif. Below find a index of original documents concerning thses routes. These documents include books, letters, diaries, and etc. I will not copy everything Mrs Etter says about these documents but rather just give you the information about where they can be found if you send me a private email. This is not a complete index from this book as I have omitted referances to referance books and concentrated on personal documentation of 49'rs themselves. This index is divided up into the trails used by the 49rs, ie The Gila Trail, the Southern Route and various trails up through Mexico from it's various ports used by 49'rs. 3. There is an Inwood/Ogburn cemetery near Shingletown east of Redding. Several of my ex-husband's relatives are buried there, so I have had several occasions to visit the cemetery. The cemetery is located off State HWY 44, so it is fairly easy to find. 3. We have a g. g. grandfather who apparently died in or before May 1874 in Shasta County. (This is from a notation on the voters list - "deceased cld 21 May 74"). Are there records of the old miner's cemeteries from that time period? Where would we find them? We understand the old town of Whiskeytown is now under water, and a new town rebuilt at the top of the hill. Does anyone if the cemetery was moved as well, or is it under water?
