    3. Greatgrandparents were Ed and Kitty Martin Duffy. They had daughter, Mary in 1856 and son John (Jack) Duffy in 1858-- both born in Coloma. I can't find any trace of Ed or Kitty, nor do I know how they came to California from Ireland. There is a notation of Kitty being buried in Coloma, but there are no records to confirm that. Any bells rung, or ideas are appreciated. Thanks. Dennis Haughey sonflower1@earthlink.net

    3. Nancy C, I have a couple of COOK's in my data base that married into my UTT's. Johnson Co MO would be the connection. My UTT's came to CA around 1850, but these COOK-UTT marriages were later on, and I don't have a lot of detail on them [took place in MO or CA ???]. I also have an old photo [about 1940's], inscription "Utt's & Cook's". I know who the Utt's are, but have no clue who the Cook's are. If I can find it, I'll scan and send to you, to see if you know the Cook's. The picture more than likely would have been taken in Kern Co, on our families homestead, near Poso Creek. Let me know if anything clicks in with you. 3. Good Day: Seeking genealogical and historical information on the Pollard's of Shelby County, Kentucky circa 1800-1855. I am especially interested in the family of George Tompkins Pollard and connecting surnames which may be "Irish" or "Scottish" or "French" in origin. George Tompkins Pollard and his brother (-s) were some of the oldest settler's living in Old Walla Walla County (Walla Walla, Washington). And, the Pollard surname was clearly identified with the "Inland Empire" in several old historical publications. According to my data, George was born in Linn County, Missouri, on June 15, 1835. He was the son of Roger B. and Sarah C. (Smith) Pollard. Roger Pollard's father was a native of Richmond, Virginia. And, his mother was born in Rockingham County, Virginia. Roger and Sarah Pollard were married in Shelby County, Kentucky. And, in 1820, they moved to Linn County, Missouri; where they lived for over 20 years. Later, they moved to the Platte Purchase, Missouri and settled near St. Joseph, Missouri; where they are buried. in 1851, he left home at the age of 16; and crossed the plains with an "ox team" to AMADOR COUNTY, CALIFORNIA. By July of 1855, at the age of 19, George made his way "northward into Oregon Territory" to visit a brother (-s) who were already living in Old Walla Walla County. In 1855, George enlisted in the United States Army. And, he may have had four or five brothers (?) who were already enlisted or affiliated with the United States Army (Oregon Territory) during the Yakima Indian Wars: Benard/Bernard, Charles/Clarence, Sebastian (?), and William. Here, at least one was known to be associated with missionaries in the Walla Walla Valley area (The Whitman Mission). I am very interested in corresponding with anyone who may have any information that connects their Pollard's or other surnames with George and his elusive brothers in California, Washington, Virginia, etc.. Thanks in advance for any historical information or genealogical leads. Best, Dick Pollard pollard@gte.net FAX: 208/248-6395 http://home1.gte.net/pollard/ P.S., I am always interested in expanding my genealogy research for maximum gains. So, if you can suggest another list or bulletin board to post this query to e-mail me. Thanks in advance.

    1. [GOLDRUSH] LISTMOM: NEW LIST - CA-EARTHQUAKE-L
    2. Yvonne O. Bowers
    3. Folks, I was taken to task (in a very nice way) a week or so ago when I ended a thread on earthquakes (on NORCAL, I think). While I stood by my decision (since the message content at the time was non-emergency related), I realized we do have a rootsweb void here in California regarding earthquakes. So (fool that I am) I've created a new list: CA-EARTHQUAKE-L (and D). I envision this list to be SOLELY devoted to California earthquakes any place, any time. I expect there will be a great deal of list traffic directly after earthquakes (ie Hector week before last) and around anniversaries (ie Oct. 17, 1999 - the ten year anniversary of Loma Prieta). However, we can use it as a forum for earthquakes preparedness and a repository for earthquake-related URLS. I would hope that everyone will subscribe even if there is little or no traffic in the event that there is an earthquake and we still have access to our computers, we can use the list as a clearinghouse and a base station. I also am only able to post this to the lists I subscribe to, so if those of you on other CA lists, please pass the message on. This list BY NO MEANS replaces local and state emergency response however it may be a means for the rootsweb community to stay in contact - especially as we know each other so well already. I'm very open to the content and management of CA-EARTHQUAKE. I have no real preconceived vision for the list other than what is listed above. Although earthquakes happen every where, California is uniquely conscious of earthquake activity. This is our list. I expect a certain amount of "chat" and earthquake anecdotes but please try to stay ontopic and relevant. Please do not debate the merits of this list these lists but feel free to either email me privately or subscribe to CA-EARTHQUAKE and post your thoughts! To subscribe to the list version, send email to CA-EARTHQUAKE-L-request@rootsweb.com with nothing but the word SUBSCRIBE in the body text. For digest, send your message to CA-EARTHQUAKE-D-request@rootsweb.com. Looked at the Sacramento Bee index and I could not find births in 1857, 1859 or 1864 nor Michael's death listed but there is a birth, Dowling, daughter born 23 March 1865 appeared in 3 Apr 1865 edition of the Bee It's entirely possible that the Bee didn't pick up Trinity happenings because the other three don't appear but maybe by 1865 they had extended their geographic coverage. However they may have returned to Marysville before going to SF. I am looking for any potential sources of info for the time they were in Marysville.
