    3. Listers, I’m pleased to announce Bret Busby will be taking over our lists (except for CORNISH-GEN which has already been created by Wesley Johnston on google groups) and establishing them on groups.io. It’s been reported on the Listowners list that many List Moms and Dads have moved already to groups.io and I hear good things about the listserv. In the next day or two, Bret will post a message telling you how to subscribe if you choose to. I plan to and will have fun being a lister instead of a listmom. I hope you do, too. Until then, continue to post your interests and lineages on CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN and CA-CORNISH. There is a grassroots push to be able to capture and archive the list messages. Hopefully that can be accomplished. Thanks to all of you that sent me private and public messages. Your support means everything to me. 3. Hi Debbie and all, Yes, Rootsweb is closing the mailing lists effective Mar. 2, 2020. After 25 years, I am personally retiring from List Management when Rootsweb closes but I will continue to manage the Rootsweb Message Boards, the Most Wanted web pages and the Volunteer Lookup Library (as long as they are all available on Rootsweb). Many of my lists have expressed an interest in either https://groups.io/ <https://groups.io/>, google, yahoo or Facebook. There are pros and cons to all of them. Genuki has gone to https://www.mythic-beasts.com/ <https://www.mythic-beasts.com/> which also hosts mailing lists as I understand it. A CORNISH-GEN lister has created a google group for that list. For information on how to join, email Wesley Johnston <wwjohnston01@yahoo.com>. I still manage the Rootsweb Message Board for Cornwall at https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.britisles.england.con.general/mb.ashx <https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.britisles.england.con.general/mb.ashx>. Obviously a message boards operate much differently than a subscription-based email list, but they continue to be available for free. If there is continued interest in Mail List research, my suggestions is a lister who has the expertise and interest create a group and see how it goes. In the wake of the announcement, there is a flurry of activity but we do have the lists until March 2nd and have time to consider our options. Thank you! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom/Webmom CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN, CA-CORNISH <ybowers@gmail.com> http://sites.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/cornishlib/cornishlib.htm > On Jan 9, 2020, at 2:49 PM, cornish-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Date: Thu, 09 Jan 2020 15:50:35 -0500 > From: sassy1627@charter.net <mailto:sassy1627@charter.net> > Subject: [CORNISH] Re: LISTMOM - SAD NEWS > To: "'sherleetooze@gmail.com <mailto:sherleetooze@gmail.com>'" <sherleetooze@gmail.com <mailto:sherleetooze@gmail.com>>, > "'cornish@rootsweb.com <mailto:cornish@rootsweb.com>'" <cornish@rootsweb.com <mailto:cornish@rootsweb.com>>, > "'cornish@rootsweb.com <mailto:cornish@rootsweb.com>'" <cornish@rootsweb.com <mailto:cornish@rootsweb.com>> > Message-ID: <0657d8e363bb0ebfa33cf264ede8e1be1f8a6d94@> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 > > I have been missing some emails, so now I'm so confused which is > nothing new.Are we losing our Cornish group here? > debbie > tn

    3. I am also very sad it has come to this. I have no idea how long I have been a member but I feel like I am losing friends. I sure hope somebody figures out how to reinvent our lists and invites us all to join. My Cornish names are Rickard, Thomas, Chegwidden, Hicks, Perry, Spargo, Hosken and Moore. 3. Listers, A day a really didn’t think would come has come. Per the announcement below, Rootsweb is discontinuing all the mailing lists as of Mar. 2, 2020. While we haven’t had the activity lately as in the early years, we have had lots of listers who contributed, shared, helped, did lookups, and provided friendship. For me personally, I’ve been listmom since I created my lists in 1995/96 and moved them to Rootsweb in 1996. I will miss you all. Between now and March 2nd we may want to post our brick walls, ancestries, etc. and glean as much info as we can from the listers still around. The Cornish Volunteer Lookup Library will remain up as long as possible. Thank you all for your years of loyalty and support. Y. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom/Webmom CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN, CA-CORNISH <ybowers@gmail.com> http://sites.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/cornishlib/cornishlib.htm "From Rootsweb: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team"

    3. Hi Listers, An oddity has started to happen. Instead of seeing [Cornish] (et al) in the subject line, Rootsweb has replaced that with [External]. No one as yet knows why. As annoying as that is, you are still on the correct list and I’m hoping the issue gets resolved soon! Happy Thanksgiving to our USA subscribers. 3. Hi Listers, GREAT NEWS! Some or all of my webpages are back up on Rootsweb (after months/years!) including the CORNISH Volunteer Lookup Library. Apologies in advance, it needs serious updating. I will be working on that soon. There is a new URL, I’m not sure if the old URL works (I think it does) but here it is: http://sites.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/cornishlib/cornishlib.htm I think that may have been the last thing however archives may be lagging right now. 3. Hi Listers, It appears our lists and attending archives are in working order. I am able to get to my Listmom pages and do all the things I need to do. Thank you all for your patience! Unfortunately, Most Wanted pages, family files, online libraries and other Rootsweb sites are not yet available. We are told they are intact. Once they’re available again, we’ll be able to update (hopefully). 2. Yvonne Bowers
    3. Hi again, listers, Thank you for all the compliments and it’s great to read you all. Unfortunately I am still unable to get to my admin pages so I cannot manipulate settings, etc. Rootsweb is still working on the remaining lists and I guess we’re in that bunch. I haven’t heard any recent complaints about the digest format (especially for aol-ers). Hope all is well on that front. Meantime, here’s a little piece of info. You’ll remember (I hope) we used to use the word -request in admin emails like subscribing or unsubscribing. Now you will use the word “subscribe”. To subscribe/unsubscribe to a list use (using CORNISH as an example) CORNISH-subscribe@rootsweb.com or CORNISH-unsubscribe@rootsweb.com. I tested that and at first got a bounce but then got an acceptance. Rootsweb says to subscribe to the digest version you need to “visit the administration page” but I don’t know if that’s new for listers or admins. Baby steps. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to those who celebrate. Stay tuned.. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom/Webmom CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN, CA-CORNISH <ybowers@gmail.com> http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/cornishlib/cornishlib.htm Yvonne's Rootsweb Resource Page http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~yvonne/

    2. Yvonne Bowers
    3. Listers It's been since late December but I’m sure you noticed Ancestry shut down (for refurbishment) most of RootsWeb for the past few months. In late January they turned off the mailing lists "for the next few weeks." Yesterday (or the day before?), the mailing lists were turned back on. The archives are still being rebuilt, and so far, there are none for our list and our library and family websites aren’t up yet either. I wanted to reach out in case we are back and haven’t burned up during re-entry. Yvonne

    3. Listers, For the past several weeks, Rootsweb has been upgrading its mail servers and it’s been a rocky transition. Our lists (CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN and CA-CORNISH) reside on Lists9 server which was the last to come back up (only yesterday) and today I am able to get into my admin pages. During the transition, Rootsweb evidently had to turn off the SPAM filters for some time and many lists were hit. My apologies if you were the recipient of SPAM from the list. For some reason, I was not receiving mail from the list (I don’t know if it’s gmail or Rootsweb or both) so I checked the archives daily and haven’t seen messages posted so I can’t be sure if messages were sent and not archived or just not sent. Anyway, hopefully we’re on the way back to normal and I apologize for any inconvenience. Feel free to email me with any questions. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom/Webmom CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN, CA-CORNISH <ybowers@gmail.com> http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/cornishlib/cornishlib.htm Yvonne's Rootsweb Resource Page http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~yvonne/

    1. [CA-CORNISH] MESSAGE FROM LISTMOM
    2. CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN and CA-CORNISH Listers, You may have noticed in the last week or so that Rootsweb has changed it's mail distribution software (ostensibly in response to the recent hack attacks). This change affects ALL Rootsweb mailing lists. All mail now has a "from" or "sender" with listname@rootsweb address (replace listname with the appropriate list). This happens regardless of whether you're on list or digest version. What this means for you is you cannot tell who (as in the individual who sent the message) sent a message and if he/she doesn't sign their message along with their address, you'll never know. Whether this makes a difference to any of you is personal choice. Additionally, you now CANNOT reply to anything but the list. You can add a "cc", another recipient in the "to" field and/or if you know the address you want to reply to, you should be able to replace the list address with a different address. What is means (as I see it - early days) you should: Always SIGN your messages along with your email address. Signature blocks help with this. Use RELEVANT subject lines. Absolutely ALWAYS replace the subject line from "CORNISH Digest, Vol 9, Issue 55" to something that pertains to your messages (and of course ONLY replace to the pertinent message - don't quote the entire digest). *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom/Webmom CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN, CA-CORNISH <ybowers@gmail.com> http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/cornishlib/cornishlib.htm Yvonne's Rootsweb Resource Page http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~yvonne/

    3. The 17th International Gathering of the Cornish Cousins "Mousehole Meets Milwaukee: A Cornish Gathering On The Waters" will take place August 13-17, 2014 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Hosted by the Cornish-American Heritage Society, this is a wonderful opportunity to see old friends, meet new ones, learn more about our Cornish heritage and Cornwall in general. Some of the tours planned are: Palmyra Area and Old World Wisconsin (“From a Cornish Trail”) (8:00 am – 4:00pm) Southeastern Wisconsin with its rolling hills and fertile land drew many Cornish farmers in the early to middle 1800’s. Our guided coach tour includes a visit to 3 Civil War Era Cornish Bible Christian Churches and their cemeteries, followed by lunch in the Clausing Barn at Old World Wisconsin, the historic outdoor museum celebrating our rural history and culture. Alice Lundstrom, a member of the Milwaukee planning committee and a docent at Old World Wisconsin, will guide this portion of the trip. Tour fee includes Transportation by coach bus with restroom and air conditioning; admission to Old World Wisconsin; and lunch. Milwaukee Art Museum (12:30 – 4:30) World-famous architect Santiago Calatrava designed Milwaukee’s iconic landmark on the shore of Lake Michigan. We’ll have a docent-led tour of the summer’s special Kandinsky exhibit; time in the artifact-filled Museum Shop; followed by a proper Cornish Cream Tea in the Museum’s Calatrava Café overlooking Lake Michigan. Tour fee includes Transportation by coach bus with restroom and air conditioning; admission to Museum; and tea. Milwaukee Architectural City Tour (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) A city’s development is chronicled in its architecture. German beer barons, shipping magnates and manufacturers have left their mark on this city by Lake Michigan. Our tour, narrated by a guide from Historic Milwaukee, Inc., celebrates signature buildings, neighborhoods, homes and their architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright. Tour fee includes Transportation by coach bus with restroom and air conditioning. CALL FOR PRESENTERS! Please consider making a presentation at our Gathering, if you are a person with special knowledge and interest in the behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, traditions, folklore, and institutions of the Cornish.
