G. D= .=20 BYERS. G. D. BYERS (Biers) is found on the Greene County 1860 census. He is an=20 atty., 23 yrs old and born in NC. Nancy Jane ELLIS is living in the same= =20 house and later becomes his wife. G. D. BYERS is coommissioned/elected Capt. 28 June 1862 by Maj. Gen. Hind= man,=20 SC, at age 25. Captain in Company D of the 25th and later Company H of t= he=20 30th McNills Regt Arkansas Infantry. Capt. Green D. BYERS, enlisted at=20 Pineville AR. He helped organize Co H of the 30th Ark Inf Regt. He is o= n=20 the roster of Co H. (This is the second 30th--Harts Reg=92t). =20 Co H, 5th Reg=92t Trans-Mississippi Arkansas Infantry Sept 1862. Co H, Rogans Regiment when killed (known as 30th Reg=92t Arkansas Infantr= y=20 McNills Reg=92t 3rd Brigade. From Confederate archives, Ch 1, Vol 109.5,= page=20 174 He was mortally wounded at Helena on Jul 4, 1863 (Hart=92s Reg=92t). Capt= ured by=20 Major Gen B. M. Prentiss at Helena AR, 4 July 1863. Transported on US Ho= sp=20 Ship SS R. C. Wood to Officers=92 Hosp, Ward G, Memphis, TN. Died in Mem= phis=20 Hosp 18 Jul 1863. =20 Co H 30th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, CSA was formed during the early=20 summer of 1862 at Jonesboro, AR. Capt. Green D. BYERS is shown as the=20 recruiting officer for most of the men involved. This information is=20 taken from the microfilmed service records of the unit.=20 Roster of COMPANY D 25th Infantry. This company was mustered into service at Pocahontas, Randolph Co, AR dur= ing=20 March 1862. The Commander, Capt. Green D. BYERS lived at Gainesville, Gre= ene=20 Co, AR and many of the men in the unit likewise were from Greene Co. All=20 enrollments were 25-26 Mar 1862 at Pocahontas.
