    1. James BYERS - Lauderdale Co TN
    2. Renee S.
    3. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From: Lauderdale County, Tennessee, History (Goodspeed Publishing Co., 1887) The next early schools of consequence, of which there remains any record, were those taught in 1837-38 in the Durhamville District by Charles Baird and James BYERS. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Would anyone have any information on the man above (this area is now called Ripley, TN)? He nor any BYERS or variant spelling appear in the 1850 census of Lauderdale Co. so the family likely left the area. Lauderdale County is in the approximate middle of the western TN border. I am following up on a suspicion that one of my known ancestors, Moses A. Byers (1824 TN), was a teacher or somehow connected to education. There is a BYERS elementary school in Wilson Co. TN near where I found him buried and I know my g-grandfather, James Henry WHITE (1869) married a grand-daughter raised by Moses A. BYERS (1824). I also know Jms. H. WHITE was a teacher in Wilson Co TN during a substantial part of the period from 1886 to 1910). He graduated from (now defunct) Burrill College in VanBuren Co TN in 1886 and from Needles College of Optometry (St Louis MO) in 1914. He lived in Brentwood, Davidson Co, TN after 1914. Renee Renee
