This helped me find who I think is the Mrs. George Crawford I was looking for. It looks like she was Mary Ethel Byers-Crawford b. Oct. 17, 1904 and died Nov. 3, 1991, daughter of Ulysses Byers. The letters she apparently had were written by William P. Slack, who had lived in the Monroe County area and then moved with other related families to Wayne County, Illinois. He apparently wrote back "home" to Abner Byers to share the news of how things were going in Illinois. I am a descendant of William Slack's sister, Aseneth Slack-Yarnall. I don't know much about the Byers yet but am learning more about these Belmont/Monroe/Noble County families more everyday. Thanks again for your help.
