EIGHTEEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ONE, PERSONALLY APPEARED BEFORE ME, WILLIAM G. COX, CLERK OF THE COUNTY COURTM A RECORD AND COURT IN AND FOR THE COUNTY AND STATE AFORESAID, ELIZABETH BYERSM AGED 76 YEARS, A RESIDENT OF NEAR GAINESBORO, COUNTY OF JACKSON, STATE OF TENNESSEE, WHO BEING DULY SWORN ACCORDING TO LAW, DECLARES THAT SHE IS THE WIDOW OF MOSES BYERS, WHO SERVED THE FULL PERIOD OF SIXTY DAYS IN THE MILITARY SERVICE OF THE UNITED STATES IN THE WAR OF 1812, AND WHO WAS THE IDENTICAL MOSES BYERS WHO WAS ENROLLED IN CAPTAIN SAMUEL MAXWELL'S COMPANY, JACKSON DIVISION, AT FAYETTEVILLE, TENN. IN 1814 AND WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED AT FAYETTEVILLE, TENN. IN 1814. THAT HER SAID HUSBAND MADE APPLICATION FOR AND DREW BOUNTY LAND UNDER FORMER ACTS OF CONGRESS WHICH APPLICALTION IS HERE REFERRED TO. HE WAS IN THE CREEK CAMPAIGN/ THAT SHE WAS MARRIED UNDER THE NAME OF ELIZABETH COOKE TO SAID MOSES BYERS ON THE 13TH DAY OF OCTOBER A.D. 1811 AT GREENVILLE! , SOUTH CAROLINA, THERE BEING NO LEGAL BARRIER TO SUCH MARRIAGE; THAT HER SAID HUSBAND DIED AT JACKSON COUNTY ON THE 12TH DAY OF JANUARY 1862 AND THAT SHE HAS NOT MARRIED SINCE HIS DEATH.
