Hi Byers and all... Just joined the list so haven't seen a lot of messages, yet. Can anyone tell me if the name Beyer should be part of this list? Are there any other Beyer kin out there? My family comes from Frankfurt am Mein. I have been searching for some time for any information on Margaret Ann Byers and her family and have been able to find none. I'm hoping that someone on the list can help me out. Any information and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Here's what I have: Margaret Ann Byers: Born 1838 or 1840 in either Mercersburg, Pennsylvania or Green County Maryland?) Information from the 1870 census says that her parents were born in Virginia. Married John Wesley Pass (born 1834 or 1836 in Mercersburg,Pennsylvania) on June 14 1853 in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. Died sometime after 1882. Margaret and John had the following children: Mary Alice, Anna Laura, Susan Blanche, James L., William (Willie), John Henry, Virginia P., Jennie, Howard J., Harriet (Hattie) Elizabeth, Carrie May, Charles H., Jacob Howard, Margaret Arvilla, Winifred V. George W. The last five were born in Illinois in LaSalle and Livingston County. The others are believed to have been born in Pennsylvania. I know nothing else about Margaret except that she had a brother Elia or Elijah (the handwriting on the census was very illegiblez) (b. 1851 in Pennsylvania) that was living with John and Margaret in Peru, LaSalle County, Illinois in 1870. I would like to find out about her parents and siblings. If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciated it. Thanks in advance! Christine Rossmann

Hello Folks! I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Whiteford and I am the listowner for [email protected] I noticed that there wasn't a list before and I knew that we needed one. I have had success with my McCurdy list, so hopefully the Byers list will be successful also. I see that the Byers Board at Genforum is a very busy board. This is good. I like to see everyone helping eachother. That is the purpose of boards and mailing lists. I would like to see the Byers list as a friendly, helpful and informative list. And everyone please remember that flaming will not be tolerated. And also, please do not put attachments on your messages. If you have a file that is especially long (needing to be sent as an attachment), please post the details of your file and then interested individuals can request the file from you directly. Byers URL's are appreciated. And please post information on any Byers even if they are not related to you. Perhaps in the future we will get a Byers webpage going which would contain links to everyone's webpages. If there is such a thing going somewhere already please post the URL to the list. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or whatever - please feel free to email me at: [email protected] Your friendly Byers listowner, Jennifer Whiteford P.S. My Byers family will follow in another message.
My wife's line is as follows: John Byers b abt 1730 in Germany, served in the military, died after the Revolutionary War and is buried in York Co. PA. His wife's name is unknown and he is said to have had only one son, also named John. The name was often spelled as "Boyer" or "Boyers". Captain John's son John was born 12 Sep.,1779 and married Elizabeth __? who was born 3 Sep., 1779. Both are buried at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Shepardstown WV. They had four sons, George, John (1810), Joseph and one who died young: John (1810) who married Ann Margaret Weiss (a cousin of Helen Keller); Sarah married Currie; James married Miller; Martin married Wachtel; Charles (1843) married Stonestreet; George married --?; Ezra married --?. Charles Clinton, a War veteran, and Lucy Stonestreet had two sons, one died early and Charles Clinton Jr who married Stipp. Charles Clinton Jr had two daughters; Lucy married Keehn and had four children and Charlise married Hopkins. We have three daughters. The family lived in York Co. PA, then Shepherdstown and next Hagerstown MD. After the War between the States, some of the brothers went to Kansas City MO. Any help on this small elusive family appreciated. BobHop
Hello everyone. The information I have so far on my direct Byers' line, dating back from the 1850s, is - James Byers, born in Wamphray 1829, and who married Janet Bell in Kirkpatrick Fleming in 1855 and died in Westerkirk in 1879. His father, also James Byers, was born in Kirkmichael in 1802, married Esther Rae and died in Annan in 1856. After this, it does start to get a bit hazier. The next generation back is John Byers, who married Jane (Jean) McGill (born c.1780 in Kirkmichael). John Byers may have been born in Hoddam - this is one of the leads I have been chasing up for some years now. John's parents I have as James Byers and Helen Garden, but this, so far, is as far back as I have managed to trace on this side of my family. Is any of the foregoing familiar to anyone? Thank you...Neil
