Hi Folks! Just wanted to let you know that I have started a forum for Byers at GenConnect. It is the same type of thing as at GenForum. Please make sure that you post your queries at both forum's because the more exposure the better. Some people may not know about the other forum. Here is the URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/bye/Byers I have not had the chance yet to post my own query - I will soon! If you have any questions about this forum please let me know... Jennifer Whiteford [email protected] Byers Listowner

Hi to all fellow BYERS hunters: I have information regarding my husband's branch of the family and thought I would do a global to everyone who has queried since inception of the LIST. To Jennifer, the LIST owner: I can find no connections in my information for the Byers group from Allegheny County. Our group goes back to the 1750's in Virginia (actually the state boundaries changed) and thence to Western Pennsylvania and Eastern West Virginia. Our ancestors did not much long distances, but the state boundaries changed. Also, thank you Jennifer for the latest email with all the good information, I am certain that it will be helpful to someone. To Shannon Byers Bailey: I checked all of your listed Byers
Hello folks, I am new at this, but wanted to jump in. I am searching for any information reguarding a Mary Catherine Trimble, born April 25, 1872 and died October 28,1925. She is my husband's grandmother. Listed on her death certificate as her parents are Sarah J. Byers and Benj. Trimble. She is buried in Allegheny Cemetery, in a CLARK owned plot. There are two other grandmother's buried in this cemetery also. One being Sarah McClay Byers born in Ireland and died April 13,1890 @ age 46. The other g-grandmother is Catherine Byers, born in Ireland. She died January 11, 1899. Listed as her parents are Mary P. and Samuel Richardson. I have collected death certificates, wills and marriage names on the docket at the Pittsburgh Court House. My husband's family were very elusive and therefore I can't put this family together. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you. Sylvia McNally

Last night I went to Ancestry.com and pulled up the 1790 census for PA and downloaded the Byers names listed. I figured this was good to have on file in order to connect to the next Byers in the family line. As it is free to belong to Ancestry during this month, I thought it might be useful for others to have on file.
Shannon Bailey [email protected] wrote she would like to know more about the family history and origins of the name. I too would like to know more. I have hit a stone wall and cannot find exactly where my gr grandfather came from. If someone could tell us the names and migration route through the US maybe we could find our line back past the 1837 period. Thanks so much for all information. I am eager to learn. Phil Di Matteo
To all you Byers cousins: Could someone come up with some background history for the origins of the Byers name from the Scot-Irish side and the German side? I still don't know from which background I come from. From the Scot-Irish side I hear of three brothers who came over and we are their descendents. Name could of been Byrs. The Byers came from the Lindsay clan. From the German side, the name was once, Boyers or Beyers or ? It's not listed on the Pall. lists. Does anyone have any facts, and genealogical lines they have traced from Scotland, Ireland, and Germany, dates and names of ships, etc., where they settled (in PA) and how they spread out? Part of the reason I enjoy genealogy is for the history, a personal history. I'm not having much luck tracing backwards. Thought I might be able to work going forward. Thanks and God bless.
