Hello everybody. I am looking for any information on my direct Byers' line. Dating back from the 1850s, what I have so far is - James Byers, born in Wamphray 1829, and who married Janet Bell in Kirkpatrick Fleming in 1855 and died in Westerkirk in 1879. His father, also James Byers, was born in Kirkmichael in 1802, married Esther Rae and died in Annan in 1856. The next generation back is John Byers, who married Jane (Jean) McGill (born c.1780 in Kirkmichael). John Byers may have been born in Hoddam - this is one of the leads I have been chasing up for some years now. All these parishes mentioned are in Dumfriesshire. Can anyone help? Thanks...Neil
Hello! I'm looking for information about my Byers line. My g-g-grandfather, Andrew Howard Byers, was born in Chambersburg, PA around 1827-1830. He married Laura Pew in early August 1865 in Warren, OH and died July 26, 1909 in Lakeside, OH. He was a first Sergeant in the 8th Ohio Voluntary in the Civil War. I am trying to find his exact birthdate and his parents' names. Can anyone help? Joyce Doyle
Capt Green Don or Don Green Byers is listed in the Greene Co., AR 1860 census as BIARS, attorney at law, 23 years old, born in SC. Working backward he would have been born in 1837. He joined the CSA Army 28 June 1862 and was died 18 July 1863. I've been on this list for some time and have not seen any Byers from SC. If anyone can help identify the parents or the county in SC i will be most appreciative. Phil Di Matteo
Hi, I am new to the list. I have been having trouble researching my Beyers line. My grandmothers name was Beyers and she is certain this is how it has been spelled, however I can not trace her family with this spelling. It seems the more common spelling was Byers. Anyway this is what I do have. August Robert Beyers b. April 21, 1865 in Jefferson Co., WI Married Nellie ? Married Anna Marie Olsen on June 15, 1898 in Waterville, WA Children of August and Anna Franklin Robert Beyers b. December 3, 1903 in Waterville, WA Married Beth Schnell on May 10, 1924 in Greeley, CO Frank had another wife and more children Children of Frank and Beth Cleo Betty Beyers Alice Marie Beyers Does this look familiar to anyone? Michelle

Hello folks! I just wanted to let you know that I am still here and managing the list! No, really, I wanted to pass on a message that I received from Rootsweb concerning their new message archiver. I have just added our list to the archiver, so it will take about 24 hours to actually get 'our' messages archived. However, there are many messages already archived within the system. Read the message below, and if you have any questions let me know. Jennifer Whiteford [email protected] * * * * * NEWS AND NOTES FROM ROOTSWEB THREADED LIST ARCHIVES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Now you can read 122,813 messages from 877 mailing lists using your Web browser by visiting <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/>. All those messages are from just three months of beta tests -- watch this archives grow with its public debut. This is a remarkably comfortable way to browse through the posts that have been made to the lists. Be sure to use the integrated search engine to find what you are looking for. To use the Archiver you will need to pick a user name and password and you will need to accept a cookie. The reason for passwords and cookies is to keep spammers' e-mail address harvesters *out* of the archives. Because of this password-and- cookie feature, listowners can set up lists to be archived with confidence that they are *not* exposing posters' addresses to spammers. We encourage all RootsWeb listowners to visit the Archiver and then include their lists in the archives. (I've already entered our list!) The next step is to start making old list messages available.
On one of the other lists I belong to, they have been having fun with the different things named after their ancestors. I thought you all might enjoy seeing some of the places that are named BYERS. Hi to all fellow BYERS hunters: Two things. First: While searching for another line of the family I came across a Byers family in Laurel Township, Franklin Co., IN 1860 census (#281/281). James Byers and wife Elizabeth with children Abraham, Ubiah, Harmark, Peter and Joseph. I hope this helps someone. Second: I am trying to find the parents of Green Don BYERS (or Don Green Byers). He was listed as G. D. Biers atty. at law, and 23 years old in the Greene Co., AR 1860 census. He was worth $1000/$1500. The census states he was born in SC. Working back from his listed age he was born in 1837. York Co., SC has been mention in family lore, but cannot be positive. He died 18 July 1863 leaving one son and a widow. Any clues will be appreciated. Phil Di Matteo Santa Barbara, CA

I have traced my Byers name to Boyer via The American Boyer's Book. Does anyone have a recent edition (1992). I live on a island, a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride from the mainland, so researching off island is difficult and our library can't borrow a recent copy. I have found that Barne's and Noble sells it, but it costs over $100. I would appreciate a lookup and xeroxed pages, gladly pay. Thanks God bless. Shannon Bailey
My great-grandfather was James Byers b.1879, Lonaconing,MD, married Mary Goult in Huntingdon county, (Peterbrough) PA, died Jan 5, 1939, detroit, Michigan. Are there any other Byers who came to Michigan from PA during this time?
