Am looking for relatives would came from Albany, Il. My Grandfather, Charles Chamberlain Byers, had seven bothers and two sisters ... he died in 1908, when my father, Ralph Joseph Byers, was three weeks old. C. Byers
Hi Phil, I don't have any information on your relative, but can suggest you check with the Civil War registry's on the web, and the Association of American Boyers, also on the web. I've started to research my ancestors who came from the Palatinate, Germany, in the 18th century. Your ancestor may have originated there too ... ? They either landed in England, Ireland, NY, or PA. It's an interesting story starting with the French invasion of the Palatine in 1688. Good Morning, I was recently given several pages of newspaper articles about the Byers families in Indiana Cnty., PA. Unfortunately, this is not my line (at least, I haven't been able to connect to them yet). I'd be happy to post a list of the articles if anyone out there thinks these families might be a connection for them. Lynne Canterbury [email protected]
Family lore is that Green Don BYERS descended from one of 11 or 13 brothers that came from Scotland/England. Have you heard of such a story? Based on the 1860 Greene Co., AR census my G. D. Byers was born in SC about 1837. Family lore is that he was from York Co. He joined the CSA AR infantry and was killed at the Battle of Helena, AR in 1863. His grave site cannot be found. He may have also been Don Green Byers. The Green being the wife's surname. Please contact me if you have any information. Phil Di Matteo Santa Barbara, CA

I am posting this message to the BYARS and BYERS mailing list as there may be alternate spellings for this BYARS family. I am seeking information on the Bidwell Byars family. Bidwell was born in Missouri and was married to Fannie Cason who was also born in Missouri. They were in Brown County, Texas in 1895. Bidwell and Fannie were the parents of John Henry Byars who was born July 28, 1895 in Brown County, Texas. John Henry Byars married Minnie Wylma Russell in 1919 in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were the parents of Roberta Lee Byars who was born December 27, 1919. Roberta Lee Byars married Oscar Harvey Bryant on March 07, 1942 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. They were the parents of Donna Lee Bryant born January 16, 1947 in Fort Worth, Texas. Donna Lee Bryant was married on September 07, 1968 in Fort Worth, Texas to David Lee Divine (my son) born October 26, 1946 in Fort Worth, Texas. If you have information on Bidwell Byars ancestors and/or family, please contact me. Gene Divine e-mail at [email protected]
George BYERS (my gg-grandfather) b abt 1820 d 1890 m Malinda Moore 1841 in Belmont Co., Ohio. They made their home in Wayne Twp, Belmnt Co. and had the following children: Andrew, Hannah, Isaac, John William, Marie, Nathaniel and Julia Ann. I believe George Byers is descended from George Frederick Byers and Cahtarine Sams of PA, thru their son Martin. Martin and at least one brother lived in Belmont Co. in the 1830's and 1840's, but seems to have left by 1850. Martin Byers had at a son who would have been in the correct age bracket for my George. Can anyone help with connecting my George Byers to Martin, s/o George Frederick? Thank you for any help given. Sallie Cleave Californa [email protected]

I would like to correspond with decedents of the Byers/Sailhamer family in Albany Il. My grandfather died when my father was 18 days old, in 1908. My grandfather had seven brother and two sisters. The only two I met were Jess and Stacey Byers. I'd like to meet their descendants. Also, there is a new history book, 800 pages, which gives a detailed history of Albany, IL and obituaries of the most people who lived there. Anyone interested, please contact me. Carol

From: "Old Home Places of Louisa County" by Claudia Anderson Chishold & Ellen Gray Lillie, published by the Louisa County Historical Society in Louisa, Virginia The following houses are written about in this book: Jerdone Castle "Located off Route 728 on the waters of Lake Anna, Jerdone Castle was built in the mid-18th century by Francies Jerdone, a rich merchant from Scotland. He owned and operated a chain of stores in Virginia, the one in Louisa in partnership with George Pottie, his son-in-law. At his death in 1771, Jerdone Castle passed to his wife, Sarah Macon Jerdone, for life, and the to their son, Francis, Jr. Francis Jerdone, Jr., who married Polly Byars, reportedly was an ardent Tory during the Revolutionary War and probably would have lost his property if his mother, Sarah, had not been a friend of George Washington's wife. General Washington mentions in his diary stopping at Mrs. Jerdone's in 1791 while passing through the county. He most likely slept in an upper room in the old part of the home." Springfield "Named for a spring on the property, Springfield is located south of Trevilians, on the northwest side of Route 613 near the headwaters of Poor Creek, on land which at one time belonged to the Crawford family. John and Peter Crawford, believed to be brothers, settled in this area of the county in the late 1700's. John Crawford married Jean (Jane) Byars, and in 1801 they gave a portion of their land to their son, Byars Crawford, who made his home there at Springfield. In 1811 Byars sold the property to his brother-in-law, Anderson Bunch, who in 1803 had married his sister, Barbara Crawford." Spring Vale . "Spring Vale is located on the south side of Route 22 near the waters of the South Anna River on the 400 acres of land that was patented by William Bunch in 1738. William Bell of Orange County acquired the property prior to 1742, and in 1753 he sold 200 acres of it to William Davis, who was living there at the time. In 1783 William and Mary Davis conveyed the house to John Crawford, who resided there with his wfie, Jane (or Jean) Byars Crawford until his death in 1827. In his will he left the house to his wife for life, after which it went to his son, William." ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Hi All! I thought I'd finally say hello & let you know who my BEYERs are, even though my spelling is different than your list title. If anyone connects or knows something about these people (of whatever spelling, since I've seen them all - BYERS, BEYERS, BOYER, BAYER, BEIER, BAIER, BAER, etc. for my same early brothers...), I'd love to hear from you! Even just advice for further research paths would be appreciated. This surname is one of my two big "brick wall"s since I can't even pin down whether these are early Pennsylvania BEYERs or BOYERs or BYERS, or LATE 19th C. German or Swiss immigrants, OR even how the name was spelled before the 20th C. I do know they were very poor, & still almost LOOKED like immigrants, even up to & including my grandmother & her siblings. You can see pictures of my great-grandfather, Conrad, in his Civil War uniform, & some of his children on my site at the URL address below my signature. Censuses say he & his family were born variously in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, & Germany. I've found one Conrad born in 1845, the same year as my g-grandfather, on the LDS IGI; his parents were listed as a Jacob BEYERS/BYERS & his wife, Catherine BERST, (m. 1843) in Indiana. I even have BURSTs from Baden in my VOLZ line, which married into my BEYERs later on, but I HAVE believed up until now that one of the reasons for the confusion about birth-place was due to the conjunction of the three states NEAR to Cincinnati (my hometown). This Jacob & Catherine, I believe, were situated in Kosciusko County, Indiana - fairly far from the area in which I've been concentrating (SE Indiana near the Ohio River). Also, most of the Conrads & Jacobs I've seen so far seem to have come from Pennsylvania (or even CANADA), the latter of which - as far as the history behind its concentration of BEYERs - I know absolutely nothing. The 3 brothers listed below - Conrad, Philip, & William - can all be found in late 19th C. Cincinnati city directories; there almost certainly were other siblings about whom I'm unaware. There even might've been twins in the family, & one of them may have died in a drowning accident in the Ohio River, but these are only family rumors handed down. I surely wish to find their origins - birthplace(s), parents, & emigration/immigration timing & placement! Family tradition also has it that maybe Conrad was an orphan or run-away; he certainly was a poor, ragamuffin-like, "street-smart" kid in Cinci. I'm pretty sure that the surname originally came from the name of a tribe that settled in, & gave its name to, Bavaria - the BOIJERs [sp?]) - and therefore, there are many unrelated BEYERs from all over the place, but if anyone knows something that could help me make some progress, please speak up!
