    3. I have found myself at a "brick wall" on my ggg grandfather, John A. Byers. He was born about 1779, possibly in Scotland. His children all appear to have been born in Ohio beginning about 1803. I know his son, John A. Byers, Jr. was born 14 Nov 1819 in Ohio. John Jr. died in 1891 in Glenwood, Iowa, and is buried in Glenwood. I am trying to find information on when and where (presumably Ohio) John A. Byers Sr. died. I would also like to find birth information on him since I'm not entirely certain of his birth date or location. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Joyce

    3. Posted on: Byers Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/bye/Byers/10026 Surname: BYERS, PRICHARD, ROBERTSON, WHITE ------------------------- Pertains to the family of Moses A. BYERS, (August 08, 1824 TN - May 12, 1898 Wilson Co TN)- I am sending it because the PRICHARD, WHITE, & ROBERTSON families all had members move from middle TN to the area in TX you mention and were intermarried with BYERS. Lucretia PRICHARD, (b. Dec 16, 1832 in Wilson Co., TN. died Unknown) was daughter of Benjamin PRICHARD (April 16, 1792 VA to Aug 3, 1872 Wilson Co TN). He came to the portion of Tennessee now known as De Kalb County in 1808 and died of rheumatism per Goodspeed's History. Benjamin married in Wilson County, TN, on July 15, 1816, to Mary Ann (Polly) CAMPBELL (March 10, 1796 KY to Dec 5, 1869 (daughter of James CAMPBELL born 1766 IRE -1826 Wilson Co TN per Goodspeed's history) [Note: Census says she was born KY, other sources say TN]. The couple had eight children per Goodspeed's history. The youngest was Lucretia PRICHARD (1832 TN). Lucretia married Moses A. BYERS, (August 08, 1824 TN - May 12, 1898 Wilson Co TN) on m. April 10, 1848 in Wilson Co., TN. Moses was listed on census as a minister (I looked at the microfilm myself - it is hard to read, but the word is not 'teamster' as reported by several other sources. The DeKalb Co newspaper 'Liberty Herald' notes him preaching in various Methodist congregations in the 1880's as collateral evidence) Only known child of Lucretia PRICHARD & Moses A BYERS at this time: Sarah A. BYERS May 7,1850 to Nov 30,1867. Sarah married Charles L.ROBERTSON (~1840 VA)about 1866. These are twins born to Sarah A. BYERS ROBERTSON seven days before she died at age 17 a) Sarah Laura ROBERTSON (Nov 23, 1867 to May 30, 1882) b) Martha Flaura ROBERTSON (Nov 23, 1867 to Aug 26, 1896) Martha Flaura ROBERTSON (1867 TN) married James Henry WHITE (1869 Warren Co TN - 1964 Davidson Co TN) before 1892 and had the following children: a) Valeira WHITE: born 9/5/1892 at Henderson Crossroad / Norene TN, married to Hubert MAYO (8 Jun 1889- Sep 1964) from Watertown, TN about 1914, lived most of adult life in Orlando, FL, died 9/27/1971 in Orlando FL and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery there. b) Freddie WHITE: Died May 9, 1894 Aged 9 days, buried in Prichard-Robertson Cemetery in Norene, TN (Wilson Co) c) Flaura WHITE: born 8/13/1896 at Henderson Crossroad / Norene TN, married to Joseph Samuel GREEN on 11/17/1918 at Faulkner Chapel in Warren Co TN, lived entire adult life on the farm owed originally by her paternal grandfather, Wm WHITE, in the Faulkner Springs community in Warren Co. TN. She died in 1981 in Hamilton Co, Chattanooga TN where one of her daughter's lives. She is buried at Smartt Cemetery in Warren Co TN. (This is my maternal grandmother) James Henry WHITE remarried 3 times after Flaura ROBERTSON died. His second marriage was to Margaret TASSEY of Gassaway TN. They had three daughters. Margaret died about 1931 and he married a widow named Dot SMALLWOOD. After Dot's death, he married a much younger woman, Crystal HATHAWAY, who was living in the Orlando FL area at the time of the marriage. Renee

    3. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From: Lauderdale County, Tennessee, History (Goodspeed Publishing Co., 1887) The next early schools of consequence, of which there remains any record, were those taught in 1837-38 in the Durhamville District by Charles Baird and James BYERS. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Would anyone have any information on the man above (this area is now called Ripley, TN)? He nor any BYERS or variant spelling appear in the 1850 census of Lauderdale Co. so the family likely left the area. Lauderdale County is in the approximate middle of the western TN border. I am following up on a suspicion that one of my known ancestors, Moses A. Byers (1824 TN), was a teacher or somehow connected to education. There is a BYERS elementary school in Wilson Co. TN near where I found him buried and I know my g-grandfather, James Henry WHITE (1869) married a grand-daughter raised by Moses A. BYERS (1824). I also know Jms. H. WHITE was a teacher in Wilson Co TN during a substantial part of the period from 1886 to 1910). He graduated from (now defunct) Burrill College in VanBuren Co TN in 1886 and from Needles College of Optometry (St Louis MO) in 1914. He lived in Brentwood, Davidson Co, TN after 1914. Renee Renee

    2. Renee S.
    3. Does this family look familiar to anyone? Moses A. Byers was married to Lucretia Prichard, the daughter of Polly Ann Campbell and Benjamin Prichard. Perhaps Polly Ann Mosier was Moses A BYERS daughter??? Thomas E. Partlow's WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, CHANCERY COURT RECORDS 1842-1892 Bill of complaint of I. W. Dill, administrator of Moses A. Byers; Polly Ann Mosier, B. H. Mosier, John Mosier, Henry Mosier, Matilds Mosier, and John O'Neal of Wilson County; and A. W. Mosier of Texas against Lucretia Mosier, Starnes Mosier, Alexander M. Mosier, Mary E. Mosier, William O'Neal, Mattie O'Neal, and Berry O'Neal, a minor. Berry Mosier died intestate in 1874. Complainant Polly Ann Mosier is the widow; the other complainants are his only children; defendants are grandchildren, being the only children of daughter Christiana who was the wife of complainant John O'Neal. 5 April 1875 (Chancery Book 1874-1875, Pp 43-44)

    1. Moses B (late 1700's) & Moses A (1824 TN) BYERS
    2. Renee S.
    3. Hi Deanna & other fellow BYERS researchers, First, let me apologize for sending my family info without the location yesterday - the Moses A. BYERS (1824 TN to 1898 TN) I have found was in Wilson Co TN (about 40 miles east of Nashville) in a community then known as Henderson Crossroad and now called Norene, TN. The closest city of any size is Lebanon, TN 11 miles to the north of this area. I suspect my Moses (born 1824) was named after the Moses Bumgarder BYERS listed below (born in NC in the late 1700's,came from NC thru Greenville SC (1812) to Jackson Co TN which is between Memphis and Nashville (by 1815)and then on to Putnam Co TN (about 70 miles east of Nashville - largest city is Cookeville - a connection to his wife Elizabeth Cooke???).... The elder Moses B. BYERS was fathering children during the period when Moses A. BYERS was born (see Deanna's list below), but Moses A. is not among them. Does anyone know if Moses B (late 1700's) had a brother in the area or somewhere in TN in the early part of the 1800's? Also, does anyone have a "Sarah" married to a BYERS man in the early 1800's anywhere in TN? The family I am researching seems to have named all the children for older relatives. Moses A. Byers was born Aug 8, 1824 per his tombstone and in TN per 1870 census. His wife was Lucretia PRICHARD (Dec 16, 1832 to ????). The PRICHARD family is very well documented - not a "Sarah" anywhere in the bunch. Moses A BYERS & Lucretia PRICHARD had a daughter, Sarah A. BYERS, in 1850 who was married to C. L. ROBERTSON when she had twin daughters and died a week later at the tender age of 17 in 1867. All of these events with the exception of the birth of Moses A BYERS (1824) are known to have occurred in Wilson Co TN. The twins mentioned above were : S.Laura Robertson born Nov 23, 1867 in Norene, TN (Wilson Co), died May 30, 1882, buried in Prichard-Robertson Cemetery in Norene, TN (Wilson Co) M.Flaura Robertson born Nov 23, 1867 in Norene, TN (Wilson Co), Died Aug 26, 1896, buried in Prichard-Robertson Cemetery in Norene, TN (Wilson Co. She married about 1891 to James Henry White (his information: 1869 Warren Co TN - 1964 Davidson Co TN) M. Flaura and James Henry White's children: 1) Valeira White: born 9/5/1892 at Henderson Crossroad / Norene TN, married to Hubert Mayo from Watertown, TN, lived most of adult life in Orlando, FL, died 9/27/1971 in Orlando FL and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery there. 2) Freddie White: Died May 9, 1894 Aged 9 days, buried in Prichard-Robertson Cemetery in Norene, TN (Wilson Co) 3) Flaura White: born 8/13/1896 at Henderson Crossroad / Norene TN, married to Joseph Samuel Green on 11/17/1918 at Faulkner Chapel in Warren Co TN, lived entire adult life on the farm owed originally by her paternal grandfather, Wm White, in the Faulkner Springs community in Warren Co. TN. She died in 1981 in Hamilton Co, Chattanooga TN where one of her daughter's lived. She is buried at Smartt Cemetery in Warren Co TN. My great grandfather was GREEN Don Byers born about 1837 in SC. I base this data on the 1860 Greene Co., AR census. He was a Capt. in the CSA Army and was killed from wounds received at the Battle of Helena, AR. He married Nancy Jane ELLIS and she had only one son before the Capt died. We have not been able to find his parents or place of birth. I am convinced that his first name is a family name. If you have any family in AR or SC maybe there is a connection. Any help will be appreciated. Phil Di Matteo
